PCOS+LapBand+No Fertility Drugs=Pregnant? Anyone done this?

Recommended Posts

I am very interested in finding out if anyone has gotten pregnant on their own after losing weight as a result of the lap band. I have almost decided that I will not pursue fertility drugs because of my age but I'm wondering if there is any chance that it will happen without fertility drugs.

I was banded 8 months ago and have just been given the all clear of PCOS. I have not symptoms of it at all.

I am currently mid way through my 2 week wait and am hoping to have a positive test on the weekend or early next week.

I'll keep you posted.

I got the band in hopes of losing enough weight to get pregnant. I will be 35 in April and shortly after my husband and I were married we did see a fertility specialist. It was then that I learned about the band. Because of issues that were also found out at this time about my husbands health we have been putting off having kids until this year when I finally decided we can keep waiting any longer.

So I started B.C the day after I was banded. I am hoping that in 6 months I will be able to come off of them in hopes of conceiving.

I won't be using fertility pills at first, I will use a soy pill which can be purchased in the Vitamin section. Use it days 5-9 after you period and it works like clomid. I also have my husband on zinc and L-Argenine(sp) which helps promote health sperm (takes 3 months though to clear out the plumbing)

So hopefully I will be joining a few banders and getting pregnant within the year.

Hi Ladies ,

I was banded a little over a year agao. I was unable to get pregnant but after the band I lost a little over 65 pounds and was able to get pregnant. I am currently in my 2nd trimester and my PCOS appears to have resolved. Before getting pregnant I was having regular periods. Before being banded I only goyt my periods when I toke medicine like birth control. Good Luck!

My friend is 32 and was banded 2 weeks before me in July '08. She already had a 6 year old boy and twins that were 6 months old. Both pregnancies required fertility drugs. She simply did not ovulate without it. 4 months after being banded, she lost 40 lbs and began ovulating without realizing it. She found out she was pregnant when her twins were 11 months old! Her baby is now 5 weeks old and they are both fine.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
