:sad:Hi everyone, I was banded on Sept lst and am down 9 lbs. Yesterday was my first post op appointment and my Dr. said I could eat just about anything that I can tolerate.

So I had a small salad for lunch with about 2 oz of chicken and vinegar and oil dressing and for dinner I had some shrimp cocktail. Everything went down with no problem. But this morning I gained l lb. I am so darn depressed. Is this normal after coming off of the liquid stage? I wont get my first fill until Oct l6. Any suggestions?

Your weight is going to go up and down, but unless you get crazy, it will continue to drop. I didn't follow the plan to the letter, but have lost weight. It will be a year next month and I am down nearly 50 pounds. Now, had I stayed away from sweet tea and fried foods and other goodies, I would be a lot lower. I know this, and I am ok with this. What I noticed (since I am also a daily weigher) is that I would never go over my highest weight for the week. The next week it would be even lower. It's up to you how fast you want to lose and how strict you want to be. We get this surgery because we have very little self control. The nurse often tells me, "You're not supposed to eat that!" Oh well Im losing and making little changes. Don't fret over a pound here and there. Once the fills begin the weight will drop (unless you splurge on milkshakes daily LOL)

don't worry about gaining weight at this point. you're on liquids at first because your stomach was swollen from the surgery. as the swelling goes down, your stomach basically goes back to it's normal shape and size since you haven't had a fill.

seriously... eat while you can because as you start getting fills, that WILL change.

the hardest thing i've dealt with over the past 1.5 years since my surgery is the limited Portion Control. while my stomach is satisfied with 3-4 ounces of food at one meal, my head feels like i haven't had enough.

so mine is more of a mental torture than a physical one. i WANT to eat more than a 1/2 slice of pizza. i WANT to be able to eat a bagel. i WANT to be able to eat a normal sized meal instead of 1/2 of a kids meal.

good luck on your journey!

Don't weigh yourself everyday if it's gonna do your head in. 1lb could just be a poo you need to get rid of! lol! I'd suggest weigh yourself first thing in the morning, after you've emptied your bladder/bowels and are naked. But only do it on one day of the week. Same day each week. Be positive, it's just early days. T'sall good mate! Chillax.

Now is your healing time. You have been on a liquid diet and it is normal to gain some weight when you start on solids, but it's Water weight because you do not lose or gain a pound of fat in a day. My dr told me to expect a weight gain between that post op app. and my first fill. Don't stress about it and stay off the scales. The weight WILL come off!!

Hello Friends,

I'm so glad I read this. I got my realize band on August 25th. Pre op I lost 13 pounds, post 9. Total 22 pounds. The 9 pounds was a week after surgery and since then I'm gaining!! This morning came another pound making it 3 pounds now. Doesn't sound like a lot but, I'm eating Protein only and small amounts. Drinking my Water and following the rules my dr gave me. I was in tears this morning. This happens when I diet I hit a wall. I'm thinkig I can't be doing this already!! After reading your comments I feel better.

Also, I'm on a birth control to regulate my periods etc so I wonder if I'm retaining Water from that. I've only been on them a short time. I get my first fill Sept 25th. Now if what you're telling me that I'll start dropping after then I'm happy to hear that and i'll relax...thank you!!!

HUGS!!

I was banded 8/26/09. Had my first doctor's visit on 9/9/09. He told me to eat anything that i can tolerate, but be really strict about no drinking during meals. He also said I am going to be hungry and able to eat almost normal portions because the band hasn't been filled yet. So, I have lost my weight pre-op, and 7 lbs. post-op, and now I am fluctuating up and down 2 lbs. I get really upset one day because I am up 2 pounds, then the next I am down those 2. My plans are to eat healthy, follow the drinking rules, eat till I am full, and wait for the fill on 9/28. Then I hope the weight starts to drop off. Still, I am down ~25 pounds since I began the whole process, which is 25 pounds better than I was 4 months ago! People are noticing and so are my clothes! :tongue2:

Kimk,

I am exactly where you are it seems!! My doctor told me that he doesn't expect me to lose any weight until my fill on 8/23. I am going to just stick to the program... I am also down about 25 lbs and in the last couple of days I will be up and down a couple of pounds.

I know that once I really get into an exercise program it will help also. I have been walking my dog but not "really" pushing it. That is going to be my biggest challenge. I know that once I am into a program I like it but historically I have fallen off the wagon for one reason or another.

Best of luck to all, and I guess "don't sweat the small stuff.. and a couple of pounds IS small stuff"!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
