Has anyone developed gallstones after getting the band?

Recommended Posts

I got the band 3 months ago and for the past month I was having severe chest pain so went to the dr and they think it is gallstones. I go for my tests next week to be sure. It means another surgery and it will be a while before I can get a fill and I was already due for one. Anybody gone through this? Does it get better.

Hi:

I had gallstones 8 months after LapBand surgery. Got gallbladder removed by the same surgeon that did LapBand. It's an easier recovery than LapBand because you've already dealt with the food issues. When I got my gallbladder out he removed the band Fluid just before surgery and I got it put back two days after gallbladder removal. One recommendation that I have is to get something tight to wear (like spanx) over your abdomen. My belly hurt and I mentioned it to my sister and she said to put something tight over my incisions and it won't hurt as much. Sure enough, it helped alot by stopping the jiggly wigglies.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sue

Gallstones after weight loss is a very common occurrence. I lost 124 pounds many years ago and developed gallstones. Had my gallbladder removed back in 1983 -- when they cut you from your sternum to your appendix (and took that out while they were there). Today's surgery is nothing by comparison. On the average, the surgery I had meant 10 days in the hospital and out of work 4-6 weeks. That was the average, and I did much better but THAT compared to outpatient? Just go get it taken care of and feel sooooo much better.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

I will probably be having surgery within the month for a gallstone.

I'm a year out. I lost 45 months the first 4 months so that probably did it. (rapid weight loss)

Not looking forward to it.

I just had my gall bladder removed a month ago. My dr. did not remove any Fluid and I had no problems. I was told that it was very common to develop gall stones after a significant weight loss. Recovery was EASY!! I had it removed on a Thursday and photographed a wedding on Saturday. I feel so much better, and I have not had any pain since the surgery!!

Yes,after fast and significant wt. loss it's very common. Mine set my panceas off and it was a nitemare. The surgery though, was a cakewalk. It was outpatient(as my band was as well) and I felt SO much better afterwards. I was out of work 2 weeks and frankly could probably have been back sooner. I am only out 2 weeks for the band though too and that is late this week and I feel ready physically. My work days with commute and work out are 12 hr.days though so I know I'll drop like a stone at night when I get home!

Do any of you swim? How soon before you were back in a pool if so?
