3 1/2 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I am only 3 1/2 weeks post op and I have NO restriction at all. I am afraid I am eating to much. What is the "Normal" amount that you should be able to eat before your first fill. I just do not want any slippage or streching. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I had my surgery Aug 4th and I'm super hungry. I saw my surgeon and she said that 75% of patients gain weight between the end of their post-op diet and their first fill. So you're aren't alone. I definitely feel the same way. I've just been counting the days til my fill Monday. I wish I wouldn't have waited to schedule my fill. Good luck!

In the same boat luv...I had lost 20 lbs...but have gained back about 7....I can eat regular portions however the speed that I eat and WHAT I'm eating has changed...for instance...bready items...waffles and sandwiches...limited...first experience was when I was eating andd it felt as if it got caught in my throat..kind of like when you swallow something wrong...I thought i was going to choke...that happened twice...I put two and two together...slapped myself and thought EAT SLOWER...since I've been fine. I can eat like normal other than the speed of eating.I dont really get hungry though....and I seem to stay full longer and if I attempt to eat when I'm not hungry....I'll get that feeling of food being caught in my throat. I can't wait to be able to take smaller amounts and start putting off some of this weight..not to mention exercise...they told me no weights or pilates until a month...I have 2 more weeks...my first adjustment is in 3 weeks. *sigh*

your not supposed to be eating like that already... I was told my post op diet will be 1/2 cup Protein then vegetables then carbs... eating seperately and drinking 45 mins after you've eaten not during your meal.

Your supposed to be eating healthy not waffles.... (don't mean to sound rude) Do you have a nutritionist you can follow up with?

Hi, im 2 weeks out and just begun the mushie stage. I will be eating what I can eat now until my first fill which will be around the 4 week mark. Im on 5 meals a day, 3 meals with 2 Snacks which is my Protein shakes. For the 3 remaining meals my nutritionist has me eating 2 oz of Protein (whatever food choice you pick to provide the protein like eggs or tuna etc.] then 1/4 cup of the fruit veggies starches etc. Eat the protein first then the remaining food. For example: this morning I had 1 egg scrambled lightly ( it was recommended to not scramble or cook an egg overhard .. BUT i cannot eat an egg otherwise so I scrambled it lightly .. left it easy to chew down well ) and a 1/4 cup side of pureed pears. If you think about it .. this doesn't seem to be the best combo lol but it was tasty and Im full!!

just eat slow and remember to leave that minute between each bite..you will be fine!! :)

Indeed...perhaps you should read more carefully what I had written...I wrote waffles and sandwiches (anything bready)..were not good to eat. It was cooked squash that got caught in my throat b/c i ate it too quickly. I do see where you could have been confused with my post, in rereading it I see that I wrote "what I eat has changed" and in the beginning it looks implied that I've eaten the bready items...I don't dare eat anything heavy. It seemed implied that I had eaten such mentioned food, however I did not...I'll be sure to be more careful in the future as to not upset the delicate balance of threads LOL

I do have a nutritionist...haven't had a waffle for...well...years...pre op I was a health food nut so the transition hasn't been TOO complicated. It was just something that popped in mind b/c an ihop commercial was on LOL

cheers

I love this site. I am also 3 1/2 weeks out and don't feel like I have any restriction. It is so nice to look at other's entries and know this is normal. I am sticking to the plan, including Protein Shakes everyday, and ready for the first fill!

Ok I see you have managed to get a ticker. Whenever I try it says invalid file. I have had no trouble getting it onto Facebook. Which code did you input? Help please.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
