Dangers of Over Eating

Recommended Posts

I just ate 1/2 a chicken!!!

Albeit, very slowly, they consisted of a drumstick, thigh, breast and wing!

Sigh!

Can too much overeating cause slippage? (I never vomit!)

Odd, cause I feel I CAN eat this much, if done slowly.

I just want to know the effects of not eating less.

Thanks!

Consistent overeating can stretch out your pouch.

What unforgettable said.

Plus, you won't lose.

Stretching the pouch means an unfill for a time, and/or band removal.

HOWEVER, unless you have some restriction you are probably ok, although that still is a bit too much IMHO.

Post op until you get restriction 1. stoma between your upper and lower stomach is fairly "wide open" and it doesn't restrict things much, so you can eat "more" food because it is going on through to your lower stomach and 2. until you get restriction you won't get satiety on a cup or less of food.< /p>

Further, there needs to generally be a pattern of overeating to cause the stretching, not one wild meal here or there.

Having said that (see I think you get a pass this time) use this to educate yourself. WHY did you do that? Do you need some therapy to help you with head hunger? It's not smart, it's not healthy to overeat once we have the band (I mean, it never is but now you may do extra damage) so try to use this to inform and educate yourself.

Hi:

Sounds like you need a fill.

I could never eat that much without hurling it back up.

Best wishes to you with your band.

Sue

I have had one fill. I know I don't eat as much as I did before, but I can still pack away some groceries if I don't watch myself! One thing that helps me is to not let myself get too hungry. If I do, that's when I tend to eat more than I should. Funny thing, sometimes I feel a little restriction...and some times I don't. Maybe it's the type of food I am eating. I agree though...when you get more restriction you will see the difference and it hopefully will make you mindful of what you are doing. My second fill is next week and I am really hoping my weight loss journey will kick up another notch! I haven't lost much to date...but I am not rushing things. I feel great and I have recovered 100% from surgery. I hope your band proves to be the best thing ever for you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
