The day before surgery do you have to drink that NASTY stuff that cleans out your bowels and do an enema? I had laproscopic surgery on one of my ovaries and had to do that - vomited the second bottle. Not sure if I can handle it.

I did not have to do any of that. Hopefully you won't!

No, thankfully lap band patients don't have to do that like gastric bypass patients do. No one I has talked to has had to go through that. I was banded two weeks ago, and I just had to not drink or eat anything after midnight. It wasn't bad at all! You can do this!

I believe I read one post on here where somebody had to do that. I didn't have to do anything like that, just NPO after midnight.

It depends on your surgeon. I didn't have to do an enema but I had to drink mag. citrate. And I'd been on an eternal preop diet. It took over 3 bottles to get me to go. It was gross, but i did it. i wanted the band VERY badly.

I didn't have to do any prep like that. Just food and liquid restrictions prior to surgery. Check with your doctor, and maybe you'll be lucky and he doesn't require it. If he does ask his patients to do the prep, maybe an exception can be made if it's going to make you sick, at least it never hurts to ask.

I agree, ask. Mine felt it was safer just in case, but that's why we pay them the big bucks; to make calls like this!

If your doc tells you "you must lose 15 kg before surgery" then I would figure you will be weighed to make sure it happened. If you're afraid you won't lose it, call your doc and ask for help! There are drugs, and/or diet plans they CAN give you to help!

I banded, my wife had GB, neither of us had to do that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
