BCBS HMO Blue

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I had my first consult with Dr. Fiallo at PVSA in May. I've done all their guidelines and they put the pre-approval forms through my insurance on 8/28/09.

Does anyone have BCBS HMO Blue? If so, how long did they take to approve you?

Thanks,

Wisteria

To answer my own question, for those people waiting for BCBS, it took about three weeks to a month to get approval!

this is pretty good news! I have BCBS hmo blue...here in Boston and I am juuuuust starting this process. I go to the informational in October and we go from there.....Can I ask what your bmi was and if you needed any other "comorbidities?" to qualify.....What else does hmo blue require prior to surgery? Now I am curious! LOL

hello. this is good news for me too! i'm almost done with my tests and once i get approved into the program i meet with the surgeons and set a date, then hopefully get approval from BCBS HMO. Someone told me BCBS of MA is pretty good at approvals - I'm hoping this is true for me!

so what tests did they want done? I am wondering if I can call my pcp and ask to have some of them scheduled now...while waiting for the info seminar. Probably jumping the gun.....but hey? My bmi is "only" 38...LOL...but my doc thinks that with PCOS and being medicated for anxiety/depression might get me approved.......wondering if that is true?

well it depends on what you have and how you answer the questions in the packet. and i think it all needs to get done through the bariatric department. but the tests i had was a full blood/urine test, a PFT for asthma, dietician, social worker, and gallbladder ultrasound (my last test, next week!!). if you have sleep apnea you'll need to get a sleep study done. and there are a number of other tests too. so, it depends on what you have.

well they have a list of comorbs that you would need if your BMI is below 40...here is a link to the BCMS medical policy

good luck!

Hello!

Sorry it has taken a while to get back you. My BMI is 41.5% and I have prediabetes which I take medication for, asthma which I use an inhaler, acid reflux, which I take medication for, and sleep apnea where I use a CPAP machine, so yeah, I was well qualified.

With my plan, I had to have a 35% BMI with two comorbities OR a 40% BMI or over. That's it. They didn't need me to a 6 month weight loss plan at all like some of the people on here. It's quite simple actually.

So basically, BCBS didn't need anything from me... it's PVSA that needed me to have the appointments and stuff to be qualified then when that was finished they sent in the pre-auth form.

Yes, BCBS is pretty good with approvals. Dr. Fiallo said so himself as well.

Best of luck to everyone! :(

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
