Can anybody tell me why this happened?

Since everyone is different with what they can actually eat. My nutritionist has told me of many cases where individuals can't tolerate ANY meat items...It is just too much to chew and break down enough. Is it just the chicken that gets or feels "stuck"?? Good luck

I think it is likely your nutritionist is overstating it by saying "many" cases. I was told most of my surgeons patients can eat anything but some have a problem with stringy red meat or bread. Most bandsters can eat some meat; and if for example you can't eat steak you should be able to eat ground meat.

Who would have a surgery that totally shut out a major source of Protein? One can embrace a vegan lifestyle but most of us don't get the band hoping it will be the meat police.

I know I can't eat chicken SKIN unless it's really crispy but it's no harder to chew a piece of chicken or steak than it is, say, to eat many fresh veggies or an apple.

I think most of us just really don't chew well enough. Some things I've found I have to chew up to 40 times; for some, it may not be worth it. But that doesn't mean you CANT eat the item, just that you don't want to go to the trouble.

I have been uncomfortable for the last 4 hours today, I had some Soup, it didnt go down. I think I overeat, alittle here alittle there, then try to have something a little heavier.....oh the discomfort. I went out just awhile ago and bought the papaya enzyme, and took down 6-9 tabs. I hope to get some relief soon. Thanks for the post on this. I got to follow the rules, eat less, eat slow, chew, but most of all if you are not hungry, dont eat just because it's been 2-3 hours!!! I hope it works!! Patti

Soup shouldn't get stuck though. Maybe a home made stew, for instance; but most Soups have mushie soft veggies etc in them.

Why were you unfilled and when/how much refilled?

thanks for your reply. I was filled on Sept 4th, friday...made it to Wed. afternoon without much discomfort. I had a light lunch that day, but it just was not feeling good going down. Then up till Sat. it was pure discomfort!! I called the doctor, he met me at office and did a unfill. I had a total of 4.8 in lband, so he emptied out first.....I drank Water there, I was sooooo thirsty!! He filled with 4.3 leaving out the extra .5 cc. He felt that I had not dont anything wrong, just too tight from the get-go. The mental hunger was good at 4.8cc, but just not worth the chance of getting stuck and all the pain!! I did make it down again to 199.6 in the weight. I keep going down under 200, then back up to 204!! I hope this is a good adjustment. I have to remember all the rules.....slow down when eating, and eat only if you are hungry. I do get my Protein in with the Isopure. Thanks for your concern, I love this site, everyone is so helpful! Good luck to you, keep up the good work!!

I think you hit it right on when you said in your other post that you thought you ate the Soup too soon after something else. This happened to me a couple times after my last "good" fill. I got very sick on a small meal that should have gone down easy. However, I had eaten something else "small" just awhile earlier. We can't eat too our food too close together. We must stick to the 3-4 hrs between meals and continue eating solid foods that do stay with us. This is how we lose the weight with the band. I was a bit too full for a few weeks as well, but would not have had near as many problems had I followed the rules!!

Also, Why do you say you get your protein in with isopure? I have a shake in the morning because my band is always tight. The rest of the day is solid protein. I hope you eat plenty of solid protein? I do tend to eat lots of Beans and meat in sauces, tuna salad, etc, but I eat protein first every meal. Isopure is a very thin drink which goes through the band quickly and will not keep you full.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
