Tomorrow is my birthday... help!

Recommended Posts

So, tomorrow is my birthday, and the family usually celebrates...guess how....with food! So, because I cant eat, I guess no one really knows what to do to Celebrate (including me.) Any ideas?

Happy Birthday :w00t:

I am not banded yet - but this year on my birthday, I specifically wanted to stay away from the typical "food" celebration. So i told my family I want to spend the day at the beach. We played ball, we played in the Water, we just spend time relaxing. I didn't have a cake, no 1000 calorie dishes and I honestly had the best time.

What do you like to do? Start from there.

Maybe go to a fair (we have Renaissance fair here and that was fun).

That's a good idea. I guess just because my family is all bigger, it never occurred to me that we could do something else and have fun. The beach is out because everyone has to work, but maybe taking the kids to the park in the early evening would be fun. Thanks!

happy birthday, my bd is in nov,i already told the family i'm not celebrating this year, and my mother of course, said what are u talking about, i can't eat cake nor am i buying a cake for other people to eat, they can all send me a card if they like, thats what i'm doin this year, just me and my hubby and a small portion of homemade food, we have to break these habits of every celebration is about the food, lets be realistic i was banded aug 24th, and life is not as fun, cause now u just can,t eat a ridiculous amount of food, just cause u feel like it or run to the bakery and get a cannoli or brownie,we have to look for other ways to enjoy ourselves, but i suspect it takes time to get used to,well good luck to you and many successes!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
