Another September 2009 bandster

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

(I'm re-posting this from the INTRODUCTIONS thread)

I was just banded yesterday 09/09/09! I was a bit nervous about the whole procedure but luckily, just a few hours before surgery I found your site and read all the Post-Op stories to try to get an overall idea of what to expect and of coruse... it helped me A LOT. Thank you all so much.

It's only been a few hours since my surgery, and besides the pain and overall discomfort I like they way the band feels: I feel mentally "hungry" but physically satisfied I dunno if that makes any sense to any of you, but it's helped me deal with the whole liquid diet thing. So since 3pm today (it is now 1am) I've had a small cup of apple juice in the hospital, a single scoop of mango ice cream (non-dairy) a couple of lemon popsicles and a large cup of fresh made chicken broth. There is no additional discomfort that I can associate to these liquids, so it all seems to be going down just fine.

I am in Mexico City, currently weigh 286 pounds and need to lose about 120. I had the surgery done here (Visso Clinic in Santa Fe, Mexico City), the total cost was around $5,800 USD in pesos (including adjustments, physical, nutritional and psychological treatment for a year). I guess the "worst" part of my procedure was getting the IV line in my wrist (I hate needles!), and the extremely sore throat during the first few hours after surgery. Other than that I think the abdominal pain has been kinda bearable so far except when I cough.

I am very happy I went through with this and will be reading my way through the entire forum for additional knowledge. This page is of great help. Thank you all so much! :w00t:

September 2009 Band Date

Hi! This seems to be where most of the 09/09 bandsters post. Are you on the list of bandsters and their surgery dates?

I was expecting a sore throat, but didn't have one.

So far, I'm doing fine. I wish you continued success with your band! 09/09/09 is a really nice date.

Anita

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
