Has everyone been overweight for 5 years ?

Recommended Posts

I keep reading about the 5 year weight loss history. What is the deal with that? Do you have to be 5+ years overweight to have the surgery? I have only been overweight for 3 years. I'm 5'5 and 245 now. I was 140 before I got pregnant and was 227 when my son was born. I dropped down to 180 right after and well, 2 1/2 years later here I am at 245.I am going in on Saturday for a seminar. Just didn't know if it would hold me back.

Well, I am not sure if this is what you are referring to, but MY insurance company requires 6 months of consecutive weight loss attempt through doctor, or weight loss clinic or whatever. And it stipulates that said documentation must be WITHIN the last 4 years. I don't have anything within the last 4 years, even thought I have made SEVERAL attempts to lose, have lost, and gained all back PLUS.

This means I will have to be on some weight loss program for 6 months before being approved. :w00t:

Hello and welcome to lbt tele.

Unfortunately for me yes I have been overweight more than 5 years. My insurance required 5 years.

Suzkelly that is very normal that they require you to complete a 6 month diet. Let's just say I was less than enthuastic about it. I just went to see a dietitician 1 time a month for 6 visits and I lost 4lbs total lol. My insurance accepted that as an attempt. I think it's just a hoop they want you to jump through.

Have you went to the same doctor for the last 5 years?

I didn't have a regular doctor for the full 5 years... when I submitted the surgeon just used the records from my last doctor and I think it only had info on the last 3 years.. but I can't say for sure.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
