So I am approved and I was wondering for someone who has been banned already. How long till you felt like getting up and walking around. I am in nursing school and really cant afford to miss much class so I was thinking if I got my surgury done on a Thursday morning, do you think I would feel ok enough to go sit in class by Monday? I know I must sound NUTS!

I think I was a little faster than most but I was up walking in the hospital an hour after surgery. I was driving the following day and back to normal activity on day 2 also. Everyone heals differently and has different tollerences for pain. I think you will be fine to go to class. Good luck with everything!

I'm with you on not being able to be down long. I just started my job in July (took the job because the insurance covers the surgery lol) My friend was banded two weeks ago on a Friday and by Monday she was up and taking her son for a hair cut and shopping. She told me that the laying around made her feel worse - so being up and moving and sitting in class shouldn't be too hard on you.

Well I was banded, not banned! LOL :blushing:

I started my senior year working toward my BSN right after I got banded; in fact I had to miss 4 hours of skills' lab to get it. I was banded on Friday and back in class on the next Tuesday, so the time span is the same.

I had a really speedy recovery though; felt great, no nausea, little to no pain, etc. Not everyone is so lucky.

I figured I'd recover that fast because of prior surgery experience, and because I didn't have any clinical rotation until the NEXT week. However...unless you know how you'll do or can afford to miss more, I'd strongly suggest you wait.

If your nursing school is like mine was, you can only miss so much of the skills/clinical portion or you'll be failed; you don't want that kind of pressure. Recovery depends on many things; what if you aren't well enough to give good patient care? If I were you, frustrating though it may be, I'd wait until the holiday break, unless you are in a program with no clinical requirements.

when my wife was banded they didn't give her a choice they had her and everyone else on the the recovery floor walking almost as soon as she woke up!! then I think the y even would wake her every couple of hours after that to do more laps. they had a nice little lap counter and everything. In all though she was back to full speed in a couple of days easy.

I was banded on Friday and was moving around right after surgery. The nurses were like can we get some vitals on you first before we let you up. LOL.

Walk as much as you can that will help. Since you will be mostly sitting I don't see an issue. As long as you are not on RX pain meds also. After surgery I had one dose of morphine but everything else was liquid tylenol for me. I stopped taking the tylenol on Tuesday.

Think RX pain meds might hamper your driving abilities also your concentration just a little bit.

Best of luck to you :w00t:

Everyone does heal differently. I didn't feel 100% until about three weeks after surgery, but I am a university professor and I had my surgery one week before class started this fall. I was able to drive to class, walk the 15 minutes to my office, and stand for 3 hours to teach. I admit, I was spent for the rest of the day and had to come home and take a nap but I made it through! My doctor also required me to get up and start walking 30 minutes a day the day after surgery. He want me at 1 mile by a month after surgery.

Well if you can do all that than I think I should be ok to just go sit in class. Luckly this semester I dont have clinicals. I wont start those again until Jan. Thanks for all the answers!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
