What are you telling your young children?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I will both be banded this 30th. We have a 4 year old and are trying to decide what to tell him. If we say anything about a weight loss surgery he will tell everyone and we dont want that. Anyone else in the same boat?

Hi I was banded back in March and I have a four and six year old. On the day of the surgery I just told them I was going to the doctors and when I got home I was going to be very sleepy. When I have a fill my kids know I go to the doctor for my tummy and the doctor is helping mommy to get healthy so she can live a long time. My daughter( 4) has gone to the doctors with me but she doesn't go into the room. I was afraid that the needle would scare her. (The staff at the place I go is really really great so they set a movie up for her while I get my fill.) My kids know I get shots in my tummy just like they get shots from their doctor. I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Thanks! It's just so hard for the young ones to understand.

I have a 3 yr old and a 7 yr old and what I've told them is little just that mommy is working on getting healthy I've decided not to tell them about surgery until I have a date and then just to simply explain that it's part of the process

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
