I admit, i was very worried about talking to my doctor about getting the lapband in the first place. She discussed it with me and I qualify.

My next step was to call a surgeon. I've done so, but I haven't gotten a call back?

I know they said I have to see a nutritionist for 6 months, attend a seminiar and I need to get a blood test... Hopefully they'll get back to me soon.

What were the steps you went through and in what order?

If you are military aren't you tricare? If so I don't think you have that 6 month thing. I didn't, anyway.

I'd give them a day and call again.

Locally I had to attend a seminar, then see the surgeon for an initial consult, then have psych and nutrition clearance and paperwork was submitted. Once approved (about 48 hours; I'm tricare standard and no referral was needed) I had surgery scheduled, preop tests done, and surgery. Seminar was 7/10; first surgery 8/11.

Wow I can only hope mine goes that fast! I'll give Tricare a call and find out then!

What's the seminar like?

Did everything in the set up process go pretty smoothly then?

The seminar is informative, the process here was very smooth. Call Tricare and take it from there. I am Tricare standard and it was very fast and easy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
