Do bands suddently get tighter out of nowhere?

I had a two month plateau. A month ago, I started exercising more and broke it (with a fury) and am losing quite a significant amount per week again.

Also, I had a sinus infection and got on Antibiotics and stupidly didn't asked for liquids, so I was breaking up the pills to take them. It was nightmarish in the mornings (Stupid I know, I learned my lesson-trust me). But I was stuck for almost 2-3 days straight from these stupid, jagged pills.< /p>

All of a sudden, it feels like I just got a fill. Everything is much tighter, including liquids, and it's been 6 months since I even had a fill. I called my surgeon and he said as long as I am tolerating liquids, than I should be fine; but he offered no explaination to why this might have happened. Can anyone fill me in?

Thanks

All I know is my last fill was two months ago and for over a week now I am so tight it's not funny.

No idea. My dr. said the same thing.

I am worried about a slip but no reflux, pbing, sliming, etc.

When you get "stuck" it can cause swelling. Since you have been dealing with the jagged pills, I would say go back on liquids for a couple days. Give the swelling some time to go down.

If you have swelling aggravation for to long it can compound on itself. Best to nip it in the bud now and save yourself from a potenial unfill later.

There are several reasons why we get tight. Some are due to stress, what we are eating, TOM, getting stuck ect.

Hope this helps.

Angie

Good advice Angie, I was about to call my doc for an un fill but it didn't dawn on me that I am compounding my problem.

It started with my TOM then snow balled from there and I have not been doing the liquids after I get stuck. I am going to do liquids for the next few days and see what happens...thanks

Glad I was able to help! I hope a couple days of liquids will help you get back on track. Sounds like you are doing good!

A lot of us have had a fill and thought "hmmm, did they actually put anything in?" .... and a week or ever longer later you suddenly feel that fill and think "oh wow". Don't know why that is, but you're not alone.

I've heard it can take a couple weeks for a fill to settle in. I have been hoping for that.....I have my 4th fill scheduled on the 25th. After my 2nd, briefly, and my 3rd fill I felt the restriction I have been shooting for!

I am really wanting to hit the "sweet spot" this time!

Hey Angie,

I forgot how tough it is to only do liquids! Yikes...I am getting hungry but I told my family fend for yourself tonight I'm on liquids. It makes sense to let the swelling go down! I can't believe that I got so lucky after the 3rd fill the band worked like it was supposed to. I don't know if I was really ready for it to work though, as I love to overeat ...it is a real eye opener to feel full after a cup of food! It's good though how we ease into it though. If Ihad this restriction from the beginning it would have been too much to handle.

Why do you think you need a 4th? I feel like I wish I were less restricted so I can eat more salads, etc.

Liquids are hard. When I do liquids after a fill I normally do 1 full day. The second day I do liquids until super. I keep up the second day routine until I can't stand it anymore. Then I go back to eating. Swelling is not our friend! If you find after a few days your are still pretty tight, you may get your wish to be less restricted. A small unfill maybe in order. I've read how .1cc can make all the difference in the resricted to much world.

Hang in there! Add some popcickles or something fun to keep you on track! Don't worry, it's only a few days. food will be there when you are finshed! LOL

I am not sure about the 4th fill. I am really on the fence. It's not until later in the month, so I can always cancel it. I hear ya on creeping up on your sweet spot. I am grateful it was/is a gradule process or it would have really been a RUDE awakening. I am a foodie, so I am still struggling. I do exceptionally well during my work day, then the evening comes and it's hard. The weekends are my worst time........I tend to benge. Benging now is different than pre band but....a benge is still a benge.....

Hang in there!!!! Let me know how you are doing. Support makes all the difference in the world!

Erykah:

Sliming is gross. Funny that you picture a snake when you think of it. I call sliming my "snake spit". Sliming is what your body does to try to make food pass through your band if you've eaten too fast or too much or both too fast and too much. Our magical bodies create all this extra thick, slippery, yucky spit to try to coat the food that is having an issue going down. If the slime doesn't work then you'll have a pb. Sometimes the slime comes up. When it does, it's thick and slimey, kind of like a snake. It's gross, gross, gross! Sorry if this was too graphic, but you did ask.

Hopefully you won't have too many sliming experiences, or visits from the "spit snake".

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

Sue Magoo, no it wasn't too graphic, I'm a registered nurse and have seen things that no man has seen before. . and let me tell you this was not graphic at all. . . but it does sound gross . . . so it's sorta like when you have sinus problems and have to hork it up and spit, thick and nasty. . . ah no problem . . . aren't we fun!

I swear my band tightens and loosens on me with the weather! That TOM, stress, illness, whatever ... I have to pay really close attention to my daily/weekly restriction. It's really super tight right now, but I do have days where it feels really loose. It's bizarre.

I was just about to get an un-fill after about 2 weeks post time of Month. Instead someone here suggested to go on liquids for a day or two. I did and zap the band feels much

looser now. It must have been swollen and never went down. I am eating too much right now and gained 5 lbs from that time but I will get on track tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
