Anyone w/ Sentara Norfolk?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is Dr. Mark Fontana with Sentara, just wondering if anyone else out there is going through the same group. My surgery is sched 9/17; it'd be nice to contact others in my area.

Hi,

I am with Norfolk Surgical and also have Dr. Fontana. I have completed all my requirements and just waiting for my surgery date! How long did it take to get your surgery date?

Thanks!

After I completed my last class it took a week to get my surgery date, which was about a month from notification. I went to the seminar in May and completed all my stuff the second week of July. I really like Dr. Fontana, but the hoops one has to jump through get a bit annoying. And somewhat redundant. However, I totally understand their desire to weed out those who aren't dedicated to success!

Hey ya'll, im with that group, but I have Wohlgemuth. I know I spelled that wrong! My date is october twenty second, which is also my five year wedding anniversary! My process went very quickly, but, i'm self pay, so, they told me that might be the case. im so very excited.

Congrats! I went to Dr. W's seminar (I'm not even going to TRY to spell it!), but chose Dr. Fontana b/c he was available when I called. They're all pretty swell though. The only negative thing about their practice is the redundant nature of the pre-op classes! Other than that, they've all been really helpful and calming.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
