Ladies, TMI , just wondering...

Recommended Posts

Anyone had surgery during TOM. Wouldn't you know it, my surgery date falls smack dab in the middle of my period. Hopefully, it will not be too heavy at the time. Geeze! What did you wear? Were you able to keep a tampon in ? Or a pad on?

As if I wasn't freaked out by the idea of going under enough, now this!

Have a good day all, got to get ready for work now!

Jodi:blush:

I also was lucky enough for this to fall on this time. Just a warning that the Lovenox shots or whatever blood thinner your doc. orderes will make it much worse. So be prepared!!

I started my period the morning of surgery AT the hospital! It came a little early, so I was not prepared; they gave me a pad to wear. I assume they took the underwear off for surgery, but I woke up with them on and a pad in place.

I started mine the day after surgery and knew it was coming. The blood thinner they give you does make it worse, I have never bleed this heavy. If it does start the day of just ask the nurse I am sure it happens and they will take care of you.

I also started the day of surgery. I was able to wear a pad and they gave me their special panties (it was almost like a fish net stocking) after surgery and I was able to move I was able to change into my own.

I had mine and was not able to wear a tampon, had to wear a pad. Also had to wear the special fish net panties too (just in case they need access for a catheter I was told). I did not notice any increase in flow though it was a little tough to change myself the first time while in the hospital. TMI I know

I asked about this as mine was scheduled for that time. They give you a pad with a mesh pair of undies. Thankfully I never needed them.

I stated right after the surgery and just to let you know if you are taking the lovenex shots they thin your blood so much that blood from your period is very thin almost Water like. It remember that when i wore a tampon and it was difficult due to the water like. So i wore a pad . Tell the nurse that is doing your Iv that you are on your period. You have to take off all your clothes includes underwear as they have to get to the bottom of your stomach, just bring some underwear and bring pads. Next time the tampons should be fine as long as you are off the shots. Hope that helps

They just asked me when I got there if I was on my period. I was lucky I ended up starting it right after surgery.

I was very lucky and had mine the week before my surgery last Monday. However, about nine years ago I had a ruptured disc and wound up having to have a vertebrae removed and four titatanium cages inserted. I started the day before my surgery. Even though I had major pain and was in the bed four days and in the hospital nine before being released, it was not a problem. They were very sweet and took care of getting me pads. I was catheterized, flipped onto my stomach, flipped back after the surgery, and did not have a bruise on my body. A month later when I had to have a second surgery to take care of infection, I started again the day before. My neurosurgeon asked me "What's the deal?" and I had to tell him it must be all the stress. Please don't worry. This is so much less invasive, it was not hard at all. I was only out a couple of hours, and was able to take care of myself completely. You will be fine and they are professionals and will not make you feel bad about it. Just be happy you have a surgery date and don't worry about anything else! (By the way, if I had to compare the lap band surgery to my others for my back, I would say this was more like going to the dentist. Don't sweat, it will be great!):blushing:

Mine would have, as well, but my pre op diet stopped my period, and for about 3 months, I didn't have one. I recommend asking your surgeon or nurse beforehand, that way you can prepare accordingly :blushing:

I hadn't even thought of this... I just got my date yesterday, 9/22/09 and that is when I should be starting my next cycle but I am going to cheat and not take my birth control 'blanks', this way it skips my cycle :w00t:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
