sooo nervous-surgery is on Wednesday

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am totally freaking out! My surgery is this wednesday.

I am so scared of the actual surgery and of waking up and the not knowing how I am going to feel. The more I read on here the scarier it is. So many people have so many issues. I am scared of the gas pain, being nauseous, having complications and being in pain.

I am scared of what the next few weeks will be and how I am going to handle it mentally.

I am excited at the same time and just praying that this tool will be my answer and that I am not making a mistake or opening a can of worms to a life with more problems. I have lost 30 pounds since June and I want this change.

I am so nervous and I know I will be crying all the way to the hospital and all the way into surgery because I cry so easily when I am scared.

wish me luck and tell me I am doing the right thing....

You are doing the right thing. It is only human to be nervous, but do not let your fear keep you from this amazing life change. Nothing that is worthwhile is easy so remember that. Expect it to hurt a little, there may be gas, but think of what the future will bring because of this. Keep your head up and stay positive! Congrats on the start of a happier and healthier you!

You'll do great! I was more scared with this surgery than any other one that I've had, I think it was because it was elective, but think of all of the great things that will come of it!

Not everyone has those issues though. I know I didn't (and I was 53, weighed close to 400, and had TWO surgeries within 3 weeks of each other). I felt great. I was never nauseated. I didn't even need to stay overnight. Don't assume it will all go badly for you. Many many people have easy surgeries like I did; I'm not superwoman.

To help you ease your fear...I have a low pain threshold and I never pushed the button for the pain medication after my surgery I did have some abdominal discomfort but I knew it was only temporary and each minute was one minute closer to completely healing from my surgery. The surgery was a cake walk as far as u get wheeled in they put u under and the next thing u know you wake up in a recovery room. You will be just fine..instead of reading all the negative posts look at everyones rulers of their weight loss at the bottom of their posts that inspires me keep in touch let me know how everything goes you will be just fine.

DawnP - don't tripp! My surgery is next Monday and yeah, I've had a moment or two of pause but you made the decision to have this procedure done for a reason - just stick to that reason and know that you are doing the right thing. I've met a ton of people - in person - from this website that are banded - most are over 5 months out and some are years out - NOT ONE OF THEM REGRETS THEIR DECISIONS! You will do fine - Just get up and walk ASAP and the "gas" pain will be nonexistant! Your mind will catch up with the band - the band won't let it fail LOL

I got banded 9-2 last Wed. Being scared is normal. I was questioning my decision until today. The pain after is more of a discomfort. Once they gave me the pre meds to relax me thats was it. I woke up and did not remember anything. I was told to take magnisuim(?) colace (over the couner) the night before. I started it at 4pm. My Dr told me that this helps with the gas. I had no gas at all. Ask your Dr.

You have worked very hard to get to this point. If you were not nervous that would be concerning. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers Wed.

My surgery is also Wednesday and I completely understand what you're going through. I'm a nervous wreck as well. I know I want the surgery, I know it will help me, but none of this is calming my fears and frustrations. Thank god I have a ton of friends that listen to me whine and offer up their support. Good Luck hun, you're not alone in this

Thanks everyone for all your messages! Well, I am now banded and doing pretty good. This is my 4th day of just liquids and I am starting to go a little crazy with wanting new tastes. What did everyone drink on their liquid diets? any tips?

I have a lot of pain at the port and trying to take short walks. I laughed like crazy today and thought I was going to die over in pain in my stomach. Can I actually hurt the band from laughing?

My last question would be a bathroom problem. I have not gone(2) at all and I dont feel constipated and was wondering if I should be going or not (being on liquids only) and if I should be going then what can I take?

Thanks again for all your support!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
