Dr. Felix Spiegel - Lapband Trouble

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone! I am looking for some guidance on some trouble I am experiencing with my lapband. I was banded in October 2007. Everything went fine. Then a few months later I started having trouble keeping anything down. This past year and a half has been miserable. I can hardly keep anything down. I can't pinpoint which food work and dont work for me. I have had fills and unfills. Everytime I go in I am told it is my fault. Even with throwing up all the time, I have only lost around 25lbs. I cant believe that is all with the little I eat. I really think something is wrong inside, but cant seem to get any help. I am going to my doctor this week for one last chance that he might help me. Does anyone out there have any advice or help for me. I am so frustrated and depressed that it hasnt worked for me. Any help would be apprediated.

That is not good at all.

Have they told you why they think it's your fault?

Maybe keep a diary with exactly how much you are eating (weigh and measure your food) and then also write when you are bringing food back up.

Take that information to your Doctor and see what they say. If my Dr was just telling me it was my fault and not wanting to dig deeper I would probably be looking for another Dr.

Let us know how you go.

Bel

Thanks for responding. The doctor said I could not be chewing long enough, eating too fast, etc. Believe me I have been very careful to take my time. I sometimes take as long as an hour and longer, but it just comes back up. These past few weeks have really gotten bad. I cant even sit with my family and enjoy a meal without running to the bathroom to throw it up. My kids and husband are frustrated with it also.

I'm considering using Dr. Spiegle, so please tell me how are you doing now?

Maybe your pouch has just gotten irritated so bad from one thing it is just snowballing into this big mess. If it were me I would go back to liquids a few days (assumming you can keep that down). Give the pouch time to relax from all the vomiting. Are you feeling healthy otherwise? It's not just a virus? If your Doc isn't working with you maybe it would be a good idea to meet with another one. Good luck. I hope things can get straighten out quickly for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
