Travel 6 weeks after surgery

Recommended Posts

I am new to the site and have my initial consulation on 9/11/09. I am going to Jamaica on November 12 and is debating the actual date for my surgery. One part of me wants to get it done as soon as my insurance approves it and the other is thinking of what retrictions I may have when in Jamaica. If done right, i would be on solid foods by the time of my trip. And since I dont drink, the ability to not drink as much is not an issue.

If you have had experience in traveling out of the country with lap band, did it ruin your experience?

I went to Disney World 4 weeks after surgery and felt PERFECTLY FINE! I actually felt better because i was down some weight. I could eat regular food, just smaller portions. I didn't have my first fill until I came home (5 weeks post op). I think you have your surgery scheduled at a good time. You will be on regular foods, just focus on Protein. Every dinner I ordered some type of fish and I even had some steak. You wwill be absolutely fine!!!! Relax and enjoy yourself.

Well, that decision may not happen because my mother isn't able to be here with me in October. I can't go through this without her but I want to get the show on the road. A two month waiting time seem so long. Normally, when would a surgeon suggest you have a surgery date?

I was banded on August 11, and I am headed off to Ireland tomorrow for two weeks... I feel fine and my doctor has given me his blessing for the trip. I will not get my first fill after I come back though.

Thanks for the response but it looks as if I will be waiting until after my trip.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
