3 days post op and confused...

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on thursday, and am confused about how my band is supposed to be feeling. My stomach is full, and that honestly is the only way I know that the surgery really happened. (well, besides the 3 days I spent in the hospital and waking up in recovery.) I have not been hungry once in three days. I have eaten 4 oz. of Soup a couple of times, but I dont feel any different than before I ate. So I just have this feeling of satisfaction constantly. I'm not hungry, and I'm not full. I drink the Water that I am supposed to drink all day, but I am just confused by not feeling anything. Is this normal, or do I need to call the dr.?

Yes it's normal. Some are hungry post op, some aren't. You apparently are one of the lucky ones. And realize that liquids flow through the band (even if your doc filled yours some during surgery) most of the time. When they don't, you are either too tight, or too swollen, and need attention asap. For most (not all) the hunger comes back at sometime between week 1 and 2. Whatever happens to you, enjoy that full feeling while it lasts. Most don't get it until several fills.

Thank you. And I will enjoy this while it lasts, I haven't ever felt this "just satisfied" before. I was always starving or over-full. This is a good feeling.

My "full time" lasted for about 3 weeks. Once I started on Mushies it came to an end. I was even saying I was worried that I would never be hungry again. Well that ended and now I am two months post op. I have had one fill and am doing well with hunger. What is most facinating to me is what I have learned about my own eating habits. They are actually quite different that I thought they were going to be. That is a great lesson. Best of luck with your journey.

Thank you. This site is really such a blessing, I don't have a lot of support from my family right now, so being able to come on here and have people validate my thoughts and worries is so wonderful. Thanks again.

Banded 9-4-2009 Not feeling anything just a little sore. No hunger. Two shakes today and 56oz of Water does that sound correct?

The "Not hungry" feeling is still with me today. I got banded in early June 09 and I never get that pain in my stomach that I used to get which i used to think was a signal I was hungry. Instead I walk around feeling satisfied but knowing I have to eat at least 3 meals a day etc. I just was told by my dr that I was in the "green" and did not need a fill at my last fill appt. Being in the green means you are losing weight, not feeling hungry and not feeling sick such as vomiting/fever. Now I was told that just because I am in the "green" now does not necessary mean I will be in the "green" during my next 6 week visit. We shall see in 6 weeks..

I was banded 8/11 and I am just now beginning to feel hunger. I started on regular food today and so far, have done well.

Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to eat more. Just make sure you continue with your Water & Protein. It's very important.

If you have problems with gas, walk, walk, walk. It helps.

I was banded on the same day as Audreysmommy and I don't reallly feel hungry. My stomach grumbles but it feels more like cramping than hunger. I was only on Water on Thurs, Frid, Sat, and Sund and didn't start Protein Shakes until yesterday. I HATE them and have difficulty drinking them. I am trying different powders and variations but I am simply not hungry and getting shakes down is increasingly difficult. I do however enjoy my one cup of "creamy low fat soup" that I am allowed. It's great to have a flavor besides Slim Fast in my belly.

I felt the same way and LOVED it! However, once the swelling reduced, the hunger started creeping back in.

There is just so much swelling go on inside your little body right now. Just be patient with yourself and concentrate on healing.

Good Morning my friend, I must say I totally love your screen name. . .I was just realizing something. You weighed over 400 lbs and you have now come down this far? That is absolutely amazing! You are a total inspiration to me. I hope when my time comes to walk my path, I do as well as you do. . . I have about 160 lbs to lose. I hope you'll be there with me as we walk the path together. . . maybe one day our paths will meet and we can rejoice together. . .

Good Lord! Are you telling me that one must drink SLIMFAST!!! :) :sneaky::eek::crying: I hate those drinks sooooo very much, taste like a can of mashed up vitamins! And please don't tell me if I don't drink the slimfast then I have to drink Boost! Then, for sure I'll have to go to the store and buy liver and beef babyfood and stuff that down!

Good for you! I have just started not too long ago to write and become friends with this site. I've not yet had my surgery (still in think phase) I do have my seminar next saturday though! That is a right step huh? I'm hoping that when I have my surgery I have those same "I'm not hungry" feelings ya'll have. . . right now when I get those hunger pangs I get so nauseated and at times vomit. . . so they are pretty violent. . . don't like it. . .

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
