i would be doing the same thing.. that is why i dont have a scale anymore. i would weigh myself everytime i went near the scale. i want to wait to get a scale until i am closer to my goal weight. i am just going to get weighed at the drs. office scale. that way i can prevent driving myself crazy.

i completely understand. its almost like an obsessive compulsive thing. it just kind of sucks you in when you get too close to it!!

I weigh myself once every morning. I get out of bed, use the bathroom, then weigh myself. By doing it at the same time everyday, I get a pretty consistent and accurate measurement of my weight loss. I tend to gain weight through the day, so my weights would be all over the place if I did my weigh-ins at different times. Try weighing yourself at the same time each day, and see how that works out for you!

Your early morning weight is when it is at the lowest for most of us. As the day progresses and we drink fluids, eat, even breathe, our weight goes up.

In the long run it doesn't really matter, just pick one and use it consistently. I use my first AM weight.

It is usually just Water weight, and perfectly normal to vary throughout the day. One thing about being on the scale all the time is that you become familiar with your own patterns, from day to day, and also through the month. I can fluctuate abt 5 pounds a day, but when it is PMS related, it can go as high as ten pounds, which does go away after. Knowing it will happen makes it less of a shock when it does. Learn all you can from it, then put it away if you need to.

I agree, weighing yourself right when you get up after using the bathroom has always been the best and most accurate for me!!! As long as you are consistent in when you weigh, I think you should be good. Or you and I would be driving ourselves crazy!!! Good Luck!!!

I do the same thing!! It can differ up to 5 pounds from morning to night. I always go with my morning weight. LOL!! Bad thing is, I weigh in with a nurse every Tuesday night at 4pm, so of course that is the higher weight.

I also fluctuate about 5-10lbs depending on the TOM for me.

I only use my weight first thing in the AM for my official weight keeping.

Man, if your scale is sensitive enough to change when you breathe, I am impressed. Did it come with a plastic enclosure too to prevent changes in weight from draghts too? Visions of university chemistry are coming back to me and I am in a giant weigh boat with a stick trying to push TARE while I'm sitting on the scale pad. A tad Allison in Wonderland, n'est pas?

my experience.......i got rid of my scale 2 months into being banded.

whenever i weighed myself alot...i did terribly with my eating. if i was good one day and didnt lose 50 lbs (of course i'm exaggerating)...i would eat junk.

i ended up taking the scale out of my house and only weighed 1X a month...i did much better.

i know when i'm eating right or not. there are so many reasons for our bodies to fluctuate.

anyway good luck in whatever you decide to do but dont let it become your master...please

i would do the same thing. if i lost weight in the morning, i would be more apt to stick to my diet. if i gained weight, then that was an excuse to eat because if i didnt lose on the diet, then why diet? Just a stupid game i played that got me to where i am today with a lap band. that is why i got rid of my scale. I get weighed tomorrow at the dr.s office for the first time since 8/27/09. try to get weighed once a day at the same time. that is the best weight to go by.

I agree with RestlessMonkey...first thing in the am after using the bathroom. It will always been the most consistent time of day. (Actually, yes, breathing releases a lot of Water, albeit in very small increments per breath, so it does, in fact, affect weight.) This is also a technique used in patients who have Fluid issues, such as those on dialysis or with heart failure. Another tip is to choose ONE morning per week to weigh in so you also aren't too concerned with day-to-day fluid variations.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
