Feeling ashamed of myself :(

Recommended Posts

Repeat after me, "I forgive myself and will go back to what I am suppose to eat."

The week will go by and then you can start on regular meals. However, since you were so easily tempted, you really need to evaluate WHY you caved in so easily, so that you can avoid future problems.

I know you can do this! So many people before us have done it and we can too. Take care of yourself, follow the guidelines, make good choices, and the first thing you know, the guys will be drooling!

I am STARVING and so far havent slipped bc Im scared to mess up the band but it is ssssooo hard. Did the pizza go down OK or make you feel bad?

Thank you all for the words of wisdom and motivation. It really is strange how some people go on mushies right away and some of us gotta wait 2 weeks. I haven't had a meal in 4 & 1/2 weeks I guess 1 more week shouldn't be a big deal.

Yes it is strange,I am due for surgery on the 15th and I am on a low carb diet for the two weeks before, and mushies straight after:confused:

Well I hadn't slipped up either unless you count letting a handful of small plain M&M's melt in my mouth. My family would've known something was up if I hadn't ate the pizza. I mostly just ate the cheese and toppins but did eat some of the bread. No problems - thank the Good Lord! I chewed like crazy to make it "mushy" and ease my conscience.

As for the guy I've crushed on - does anyone feel like your dating life is at a standstill b/c you want to lose weight before meeting folks of the opposite sex? Not to hijack this thread - sorry. It's really ridiculous b/c I'm the same person underneath the extra 80 pounds.

I hear ya about the pizza. Im sure I will be stuck in some situations like that when I get back to school and ppl are like why arent you eating. BC Im not telling ANYONE but mom dad and sister!

I feel the same about dating too. I just want to work on getting skinny then think about a man. BC Im not excatly looking to explain on a date why I can only have a smoothie haha!

I was banded a week ago. I've been eating/drinking what I can tolerate. I just love that chewing a few bites of meat is called a "slip-up", usually for me (prior to my surg last week) a "slip-up" involved a Big Mac, and a corner piece of birthday cake! LOL!

Even if you cheat alittle my two cents is you will still continue to lose weight because your portion sizes are now limited. You will not be ingesting the same caloric intake as before so u will naturally lose weight. If you feel bad about yourself for "cheating" just make a corrective action immediately and be "good" again I punish myself by making myself do the treadmill in my home for a mile if I have a "bad" day. Best of luck with your journeys

This is so true NJBouncer. I could easily eat 4-6 slices in a sitting and then the rest of the pizza w/in the hour. I think the more serious issue isn't so much your conscience but band slippage.

My post-op instructions (banded 9/3) are on the conservative side - two weeks on Clear Liquids and I'm wondering if there's a creative way to get through this stage. Think I'll try flavored diet ice teas and every flavor of diet Jello available. I thought about making my own fat-free chicken broth this weekend so I could control the sodium and make it taste better than ready made. Would appreciate any ideas.

Renee I drank crystal Light like it was going out of style in fact i still do. Lemonade and pink lemonade are my favorite. I also ate vegetable Soup small portion maybe 2/3 cup mostly drank the broth ate alittle bit of the actual soup. I was kept on the clear liquid diet for only 5 days and then I was upgraded to the next stage.

Slippage?? my doctor told me the chances of slippage are very low due to the new surgical protocols of stitching the band to the upper folds of the skin it practically eliminates the chances of slippage. I wouldn't worry too much if this is how your procedure was performed.

Good Stats! This board puts the fear of God in you about band slippage. To the OP: I was banded on August 21. When I ate the pizza I chewed it up so much it became mushy & had no problem. During the clear liquid stage I added Protein drinks & ensure drinks b/c I felt like I was dying: bed-ridden, no energy, felt like I was starving!

Thank guys for the kind words. I really liked this guy but apparently it doesn't matter if I'm intelligent & nice. It just matters if your a size 2. Sigh.

BTW, have you guys tried Welch's 10 calorie Black Cherry juice?? AWESOME!!!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
