Feeling ashamed of myself :(

Recommended Posts

I'm so angry with myself. I'm 10 days post-op and did great with my pre-op liquid only diet all 3 weeks of it (never cheated) but post-op I've had 2 bites of meat on 3 seperate ocasions. I just feel horrible that I did it. Especially liquids only post-op is crucial. Anyone do the same anything bad happen?

I am just 2 weeks post op, I havnt been hungry for any food yet. I had a friend who "chewed" meat a couple of times right after surgery but spit it out. I cant imagine it would hurt you, I think it's best to just get a diet plan and stick with it. If you "mess up" learn from it and move on. Dont beat yourself up over it, just learn a lesson and let go.

Thats my 2 cents worth.

I started soft solids 8 days after surgery, with my doctor's consent. I am sure you are fine. The guidelines are so different amonst doctors, it sort of annoys me. A few more days, and you will probably be on mushy's anyway. Don't beat yourself up. You are doing awesome. I haven't vomited, burped, had pain, or anything (knock on wood). Everyone recovers different, just keep on your track and you will be successful. KEEP IT UP, YOU HAVE A LOT TO BE PROUD OF!!!

Hey I know how you feel. I am 7 days post-op myself and it seems like my hunger button has turned on. I have also ate some small bites of solids like chicken (very chewed) and cooked spinich and applesause. I did not feel any pain just a little pressure. I am suppose to be on liquids for one more week and not sure if I can make it. My body is asking for some real food. Can anyone help?

I would say that most of us on here have had a slip up.. but really compared to our usual "CHEATS" don't you giggle to yourself that your upset over a few bites of meat? !? Think of how you were before, and how you will be now... Huge difference. As long as it didn't get stuck or cause you any obvious troubles, I am sure you are fine, if you are on schedule, you should be scheduled for a fill in 2 weeks right?...That should help (only a little though, don't put too much hope in the 1st or 2nd fill or you will be disappointed) It takes most of us 3-4 fills to get where we need to be, but don't despair, you will be singing your praises (Like the rest of us) in no time!!!

I know eating ANYTHING that has to be chewed makes the stomach churn and that twisting action can cause a slip, or set you up for one later. Sorry! Even chewing gum can get the stomach going.

Your safest bet is to NOT eat anything else, and to let your doc know. He may laugh it off (I hope so!) or he may want to check you out to see that everything's still copacetic. I've read both reactions on here.

Don't feel guilty; that won't help a thing. Just don't eat ahead of your diet any more, and let your surgeon's office know. (again, not to "confess" but just to see if you need to be checked out or not...and I hope not)

Good luck.

Thank you all for the words of wisdom and motivation. It really is strange how some people go on mushies right away and some of us gotta wait 2 weeks. I haven't had a meal in 4 & 1/2 weeks I guess 1 more week shouldn't be a big deal.

Well, some surgeons are more conservative, some are more experienced, frankly some are more skilled or better educated...at any rate they are different, just as we are. That's why I figure you'd be safest to tell your surgeon. You probably won't be the first of his patient's to "cheat" and he'll know if you are probably ok or need to be checked out.

I am in the mushy portion of the diet. My family visited & ordered pizza. They don't know about my surgery. I was going to take a bite of the cheese - next thing you know I ate 2 slices minus the crust. I feel terrible but the only thing I can do is start over on the mushy healthy stuff I have in my cabinet. I'm sad over the pizza & found out the guy I have liked for years is asking some girl out. : (

yes it is confusing when u read about those who aren't required to do pre-op liquids and are on normal foods right away id be interested in seeing the results of each of the eating plans I suspect the rules are more geared to faster weight loss then band maintenance...but either way, you can't deny the great results !!!!!! good luck keep up the good work..the week will be over before u know it!

Looking hot is a great motivator too! I wished I could yell at him & say "Wait, I can be just as pretty as the beauty pageant girl you're going to ask out! Just give me few months!"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
