...about having the band. This story about Jay Hunt, a television presenter in the UK, had the bypass last year. Excellent read of her diary and the accompanying photos all make a fabulous success story. All good so far. Now scroll down to read the comments from readers...

Wow. Lots of nasty comments. I personally chose to tell EVERYONE so that I could proove them all wrong, and mostly so I could EDUCATE them. I've come to the conclusion that most naysayers are simply UNEDUCATED. It also helps me stay accountable to myself. It's hard dealing with negative comments, and I've already had my fair share, but in the end they will see. Most importantly I got banded for me, and not for anybody else. Who gives a sh*t what they think!?

Those who matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter...

I was really open before and after about going the banding route. If I was asked how I'm losing the weight then I tell them. I have yet to receive one negative comment. Not a single one. I've had people be surprised as they didn't think I was big enough to qualify (5'3 1/2" and 237 definately qualifies!) but that's as close as it's come and, honestly, that doesn't qualify as a negative in my book. Maybe I've just been lucky?

I guarantee that the crass and tactless commentary were left by people that NEVER had to struggle with weight. Pre op...I worked out on a regular basis, cardio, weights and pilates. I ate extremely healthy and didn't feel bad about my weight. I wasn't lazy...very active..HOWEVER..my health was at risk..I worked HARD to try to lose weight and I was unsuccessful. I've told many about being banded and most are excited for me. I know that there are many ignorant people that assume b/c someone is overweight that means they are lazy or eat excessive amounts. Let them live in their own little world of ignorance, while we choose to do something to improve our lives.

I know a lot of people have received nothing but support for their decision to have WLS and I am pleased for them. I just know how my family and colleagues are: family are judgemental about everything (and ignorant/bigotted!) and I am surrounded by skinny colleagues who are obsessed with competing to be the thinnest girl in the Company!

I have told my children (who have been fabulous), my partner and 2 close friends.

I don't think it is only people who've never struggled with their weight who make nasty comments either. How many times do we read threads from people who had WLS and their overweight friends make negative remarks?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
