I find the Atkins low card Cafe Caramel and Cafe Mocha are very tasty. The only place I am able to find them on the shelf is the Vitamin Shoppe.< /p>

This topic comes up in forums quite often. I even started on myself a few months ago entitled "I hate Protein shakes!" I got lots of good advice and good recommendations. What I found is that each of us has different tastes, so what one person likes may not work for another person. I decided to do some taste tests to find what worked for me. I bought individual servings off store shelves (try stores like GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe in addition to the big box stores), I ordered samples from the big names like unjury and Chike, and I experimented with varying the way I mixed them up. I learned that I can't tolerate the smell of ANY of the powdered Proteins, but there are two premixed shakes, readily available, that I can tolerate. This worked FOR ME.

If your doc says that you need to drink a certain kind of Protein, then you need to do what he says. My doc now prefers that I get everything via food and to use shakes only as supplements when needed, so I keep a few in the fridge for those few days.

Good luck, and happy experimenting. You'll find something that works for you, and you'll be the expert one day in a few months when a new bandster begins a forum on this very topic!

(By the way, just FYI, the two that I can tolerate are EAS Carb Advantage and Muscle Milk Light.)

The two I have found that I can tolerate and actually like are the RTD Lean Body by La Brada 40g Protein and RTD Oy Yeah shakes 32g protein. These are a little higher calories but my nutritionist said they were fine. They both taste great are very easy to drink. The one thing I needed was that it was lactose free so I was a little more limited.

Like many posters I have spent a lot of money and time trying to find what works for me. The smell and taste of the Vitamins makes me gag. I have finally found one that I actually feel like i'm drinking a milk shake! I use the EAS powder with Water and 4 cubes of ice. I bought a small blender for $13 at Walmart and this is how I do it. I take 8 ounces of Water, add 4 ice cubes and put in one scoop of either the vanilla or chocolate powder THEN I add two teaspoons of the Jello Brand fat free sugar free pudding mix flavor of my choice! It only adds 15 calories and makes it thick and flavorful. My favorite is adding banana pudding mix to chocolate shake! My daughter actually walked into the room just as I sat down to drink my shake and she took it and tasted it and got upset that I went out for a shake and didn't get her one! She did not believe it was a Protein shake! I have come to like them so much that I refuse to eat or drink anything else for Breakfast now. It has 20 grams of Protein and only 170 calories. I hope this helps. The cost of the powder at Walmart is only $8 and it lasts me about 2 weeks. I didnt taste a difference between using water versus skim milk so I figured why add the extra calories when it tastes just the same with water!

HOpe this helps!

I have used the Isopure Zero Carb by whey ( Strawberries and creme flavor). It has 50g of Protein and 210 calories. I mix it with skim milk and add a banana and 5 fresh stawberries. I have 2 shakes a day (Breakfast and lunch) that gives me a 100g of Protein. I try to eat a real meal for dinner. I am still in the mushy phase. I was banded on Aug.12, 2009. I don't know how much protein we are supposed to have daily. I'm trying to avoid any more hair loss. My Hair loss came from just the natural process of aging.

I participate in a large support group meeting, and the instant Protein Shake of choice is 'Premier' brand available at costco. It has 30gms of protien, 160 cal, 3gms fat & 3gms Fiber, with 25% of most all recommended daily Vitamins. I have only been able to find chocolate, but I LOVE it - rich, creamy chocolate without the artificial sweetner taste. It comes in a case of 18 for about $24. I drink one daily for Breakfast, and I just decided to start drinking a second one around dinnertime as my hair has started to thin, and I don't think I'm getting another 30gms of protien from the food I am eating. Even though it is mostly protien that I eat, it's just not enough of it. I've also started taking a Multi-Vitamin with Biotin for the Hair loss (CVS brand 'Hair, Skin, & Nails').

There is a brand called Pure Protein that makes a pretty good Protein Shake. I buy the premixed ones in the can I prefer them to powder. They come in 21 or 35 grams of protien. You can get them at Trader Joes or GNC I've also seen them at Target. I usually have 2 35/gr a day. They taste similar to slim fast shakes in come in 4 or 5 different flavors. They are low in sugar, carbs, and calories

I use the premire brand too and love it. It has 10 more grams than the Muscle Milk light and one less gram of sugar.

I still like the Isopure the clear Protein Drink, i get them at lindberg nutrient or i think they sell a generic one at GNC. I also like the carnation instant breakfast sugar free. Also costco has a kirkland weight loss shake, they are really good and about 16 bucks for 20 of them.

I am currently looking for the right protien shake for me..... I have only tired one and it was TERRIBLE. So I thought I would ask you guys what you have found. I like the sweet stuff that makes me think Im drinking a milkshake. Im not much for choking down something that is nasty. Right now I am drinking slim fast and I love them but they only have 10 grams of protien rather than the 25 or so you get from a protien shake. What have you guys found?

Banded Sept 2, 2009

I am getting banded on 9/17 and have been using the vanilla Creme from Target. I put a 1/2 cup of strawberries or 2 rings of pineapple (canned no juice" into my VITA MIX blender and have lost 27 lbs in 2 1/2 months. Delicious! I would recommend looking at the Vita Mix blender. It cost close to $500 bucks and if you had told me to spend that much for a blender, I would have said you were crazy. But it has made a big difference as I hate veggies. I stick spinach, apples, carrots, with my shakes (anything except asparagus) to get my veggies.

Good luck on your great adventure!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
