abbey.barclay 0 Posted September 5, 2009 I fed my boy orange juice every day of his life, and now look what happened, he is orange! Just kidding, that was his Halloween costume last year. In all seriousness, is fruit a bad thing to feed dogs, or is something that can help them stay healthy?
Blaze21 5 Posted September 5, 2009 You shouldn't give your dog fruit because it has sugar in it.
NCLisa 0 Posted September 6, 2009 Fruits and veggies are good for dogs, just not in large quantities. One of my dogs favorite treats are apple slices. So much better for them than junk food. Many raw diets include fruits, veggies and raw meats. I prefer dog food, with fruits and veggies on the side. I've never had an overweight pet, and my dogs all live to between 14 and 18 years of age. krtork 0 Posted September 6, 2009 My dogs also love fruits and veggies. They love raw carrots and green Beans. They also love apples. I usually feed them as treats. When one of the dogs was on a diet, we fed her green beans as a filler so she didn't feel like she was starving, but she wasn't eating empty calories. melmarlem 0 Posted September 6, 2009 I work for a veterinarian at an animal clinic. We actually have several clients who feed their dogs vegetables. Not so many fruits though. We have a set of bulldogs that come in that get fed green Beans and yogurt for a snack. They love it. I think the vegetables are okay in moderation, and also SOME fruits. With fruits that have seeds, the seeds should be removed. Also, grapes are NEVER a good choice. Raisins are also off limits! Both of these will make a dog very sick, as it will put them into acute renal failure.
NCLisa 0 Posted September 6, 2009 We have a set of bulldogs that come in that get fed green Beans and yogurt for a snack. They love it. My large dogs favorite stuffing for his Kong is non-fat vanilla yogurt, with pieces of apples and carrots. Then close the ends with Peanut Butter, and freeze it for 48 hours. He loves that frozen treat, and it keeps him busy for a couple hours. Yogurt is great for his stomach.
melmarlem 0 Posted September 6, 2009 The bulldogs are on quite a few pills each. We cover their pills with a blob of yogurt and it masks the pill taste. Works like a charm! It's funny because they eat "Carbmasters" vanilla yogurt from Kroger. When I was feeding them this yogurt it was the first time I had seen it. I read the nutrition label and saw that it had 12 grams of Protein per serving and only 3 grams of sugar and 1.5 grams of fat. After that I ran out to Kroger and got me some! It's good stuff!
