Had to be unfilled.....Afraid to get refilled again

Recommended Posts

I went in for my fill on Monday morning and was taken from 4cc to 5.5cc's (I have the 14cc band). I was fine the first 2 days eating Soup and mushy stuff. On the 3rd day I attempted to eat scrambled eggs and had throw them up. I thought it may have been the toast I was trying to eat with it, so I tried the eggs alone the next day only to have the same result. Long story short, I kept throwing things up over the next few days. Today I finally called the surgeons office and they said to come right in. When I got there I was weighed and I lost 7 lbs in 5 days. They unfilled me back to 4 again. Now I'm slightly afraid about getting filled again. Am I going to have the same problem next time? Has this happened to anyone else?

Having to "tinker" with the fill level is common. I'm sure your doc has encountered it before and will probably re-fill you to a lower level, like 5 cc's instead of 5.5 In fact I'm shocked he removed ALL of it. The one time I was tight my doc removed .25 cc and I was fine! (a little bit goes a long way when you're close to restriction)

Just had the same problem a couple days ago but I couldnt even keep down Water or even my own spit!!! It was miserable. I was at 4 cc and the filled me to 5.5 cc too but Im in a 10 cc band. So I went in and they stood me up and did my unfill as I drank water untill I felt it go down better. They ended up taking out .6 cc and I'm doing great. Stilll real tight but I can get any food down as long as its tiny real chewed up bites!

I have had the same issue several times.. It's always when I get to 5 cc's I always have issues. I am fine for a couple of days then something, wither it's food or juice just gets stuck. Speaking for myself.. I can't really eat anything in the morning because my band is always tighter in the am. So I usually workout in the am because for some reason it makes it looser. Also you may want to tell you doc to fill you slowly.. being instead on 1.5 cc just have him put .75 cc's in. Hope you feel better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
