UK newbie here saying hello!

Hi all of you September Bandits,

I am going for my band on 090909 which seems a lucky date.

I am not telling many people at all about this so will probably be using this forum for support and hope to do the same for others on here.

I am 50 and am paying privately to get my lap banding done. I am a health professional and know how hard it is to get it done on the NHS in the UK. I am keeping it a secret from my patients because I feel rather awkward about it. My colleagues at work know about it and are supportive and in fact very interested. We already have one patient who went privately to have it done and I know of one other person in my area who is having a balloon then a bypass.

I am keeping to the low carb, low fat, low just about everything glycogen-reducing diet till the op and the op is my big incentive.

I read the book "The Lap-Band Solution" by Paul O'Brien and it was really enlightening. I have also got a recipe book for eating after weightloss surgery, that seems quite good.

My inspiration for considering lapbanding was Fern Britton. Once I started reading about it, for me it seemed the perfect answer...

Welcome to 09/09/09! It seems almost here.

I'm not telling many people, either. Maybe as time goes on I will.

I hope to read about your journey!

Anita

Good luck for your op Brighton Belle! I had my band done privately last November and it has been the best thing I have done. I have lost over 7 stone and am very nearly at my target weight, currently I am 10st 10lbs.

I told everyone about my operation and I never regretted it as I am a lousy liar. I also get lots of support from friends, family and work colleagues and when people say 'haven't you lost weight' I find myself evangelising about weight loss surgery.

You will get a lot of support on these boards and all your questions will be answered so glad you have found us.

Where are you being done?

Sue

I am being done in Glasgow at the Nuffield by David Galloway.

To tell or not to tell...I am not at all sure so that is why I am keeping it a secret at the moment.

I am very interested in what other people have done about telling.

Work knows I am off for two weeks but not for what for. I work part time but I am in a position where I go off on courses and study leave etc so no one that works for me has really questioned me about it.

Struggling a bit with being hungry on the pre-op diet. A few more days to go.

Wow! Brighton Belle (09/09/09) I too chose that date to be banded but later decided to move it up by one day (09/10/09) I'm going to Bajanor Obesity center in Mexico. I decided on not being on a plane on that day. I guess Im a little superstitious. But the best of luck to you and your weight loss success.

I am going in tomorrow, nil by mouth from 10 am which means I can at least have some caffeine in the morning-my pre-op diet is a small bowl of Cereal and tea or coffee...so that's ok.

Due in at 11am, on the list for 4pm.

Not sure what I am going to do all day, apart from seeing the dietician at 1pm. Could not do this before as I live a long way away.

I have got loads of books and my mp3 player and a couple of wedding magazines...OK, actually four! My daughter is getting married in a year or so and it is nice to think I won't be a size 20 by the time it happens.

Plumplump, I will keep you posted on what the Glasgow Nuffield is like and also Mr Galloway.

Good luck everyone. Most of you have had your surgery by now. Please post and let us late September bandsters know how it was. I hope you had an easy time. I get my band on the 22nd. Very nervous.

Well, I am telling you, I have not had any regrets about having it done at all. Somehow I feel better than I have for some months...

I felt very strongly that I had to do something serious about my weight as I was generally not feeling good in a non-specific way apart from all the specific problems with self-esteem, snoring, joints etc.

I know it is early days still but I am starting to feel hungry again. I have lost about 10lbs with the pre-op diet and now I am 10 days post-op, feeling pretty good and going back to work on Monday. But it is not long to my first band fill and I am trying to hold on to the feeling I had at the beginning where I could take food or leave it...

So try not to be nervous. It is a big change but one for the better.

You may feel a bit sore for a few days. I purposely did very little, pottered about the house, watched DVDs and read books and really let myself recover.

For all sorts of post-op queries, you can be sure that someone, somewhere, sometime had it already and posted about it on here. I found it really reassuring to look stuff up using the search feature on here.

Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
