Had my surgery about 6 days ago.

I have been living off of four things. Protein powder shakes, SlimFasts, chicken broth, and Water.

I was told to wait 3 weeks after surgery to switch to mushies BUT I AM GOING TO EITHER GO MAD OR EAT THE CAT if I can't have something other then what I've been eating (er, drinking).

What did you eat 1-2 weeks post-op? How long did you wait to switch to things like apple sauce and yogurt, and did it hurt when you did?

Help please, I love my cat :smile2:

call your nutricionist and tell them what you are going though they will give you different ideas. It's not a good idea to advance your diet it will just do you harm.

Every surgeon is different but my diet allows me to have sugar free pudding, yogert, applesauce, Soups if blended, and other stuff like that after 48 hours. I am a week and a half post-op and my day consists of a Protein Shake in the morning and at night and I will have a yogert or pudding for lunch. I am totally satisfied with this so the diet has been pretty easy. I have started buying the cambells Soup at hand that you can sip on and they are great. The noodles are very small and they go down nice. You may want to try sugar free popsicles but call and ask before you do anything.

I agree with soocalchic...call your doc and/or nutritionist and ask. I was on liquids for 2 weeks (after a 5 week long preop that might as well have been all liquids) so you CAN live even if you don't want to! :smile2: Hang in there. Right now your band needs to heal into place and eating anything "off diet" too soon can do you harm.

I was banded on the 28th august. And so far I've been managing with...

Bucket loads of soups! Well veeeery tiny buckets - but it just didn't have the same effect if I said "Teaspoon fulls of soup!:smile2: My hubby's cooked up some great stuff, all puree'd nice and thin. We've had roasted garlic (good natural antibiotics for the wounds, too), cauliflower and broccoli, chinese chicken and sweetcorn (I dodged the chunks and stuck to the broth and eggdrops), and even some of the thin liquid from a beef and veg casserole. I just can't handle the processed flavour of the packaged Soups and Protein drinks constantly - and the yuccky aftertaste they leave. I also have miso Soup packages in the cupboard (I was dodging the tiny bits of seaweed, but now not so worried). Have to admit though, I did go crazy yesterday and made myself some sloppy scrambled eggs.

I know it is so difficult in this stage. You feel like you are never going to be normal again and in some ways you won't be. You will need to change your mindset and not think about what you can't have but enjoy what you can have. This is your healing time and so important to do what your surgeon says. Six days is very soon. I agree with the others to call your surgeon and see what they say.

I agree- call.

The first six weeks are the time you really don't want to cheat at all. That said, I started on my 2nd phase two days early...but my 2nd phase is what you're able to have now. I had 3 weeks of Clear Liquids only and skim milk.

I liked the Whole wheat crackers in the cream Soups after a couple weeks, even though they were soft and mushie it made me feel there was a little something. Frozen sugar free pudding in the kids popsicle things. Frozen fruit Protein Shakes. I was so glad when my week #6 got here and I could actually have puree'd real food, looked like baby food but the texture was just right to satisfy the NEED. I did not have an appetite for a couple of months, just felt like I "needed" something to eat.. Good luck and hang in there..:smile2:

We were able to eat soft Proteins and cooked vegis on day four after of our surgery and were fine. But again that is my surgeons way of doing it. We also didn't have to do anything before surgery that was special. We just couldn't eat after 12 noon the day before.

So call and tell them your going crazy because they will tell you to move on to something with a little more then liquid to it, don't know what but it may help satisfy you a little better.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no wrong or right way that each different surgeon does this, its whatever they feel comfortable with and what they see the best results with in their practice.

ROFL... don't eat the CAT!

My recommendations are to follow the Clear Liquids for 2 weeks, full liquids for 2 weeks, pureed for 1 week and mushies for 1 week......

Call your nutritionist for more recommendations and see what they say. I have to see mine 4 weeks post op so hopefully yours will give you some ideas.

I think you are very funny- and luckily your sense of humor is going to help you get through this difficult transition.

Here is the good news- I can't even remember what I rules I had to follow post op- so in the long run you will make it through without any long lasting effects- OTHER THAN WEIGHTLOSS!!!!!

Hang in there- do call your dr's office and run it by them so that they can tell you to either press on or modify it accordingly.

You can do this!!!! Keep yourself busy and distracted.

Hey girl, What flavor is that cat? I'm getting a bit hungry myself! I was banded 4 days ago and my surgeon had the hospital nurses bring me sugar free Jello and popsicles in the recovery room along with broth, iced tea and dannon liquid yogert. I say try some very small bites of pudding, or applesauce and see what happens. I took my teenager to McDonalds before school this morning and I had the yogert & fruit parfait. I just chewed that fruit like crazy before I swallowed it. That was 3 hour ago and nothing happened. Let me know if we're gonna cook the cat though cuz I'm in!!

We all had different schedules mine was one week of liquids (defined as anything that will fit through a straw), one week mushies, one week soft and then foods as tolerated. So every program is different. I as have read on here when people have called and asked they have been given different food ideas. So call your team and hang in there, its worth it!

Try mixing fruit into your shakes. Also try some cottage cheese. I started mushies 8 days after surgery. If you feel good, try soft foods in tiny bits, scrambled eggs, cottage, cheese. The doctors go overboard (in my opnion) with all these different recommendations. But talk to your nutritionist.

I feel just as hungry as you do, and my kitty is sitting here laying across the computer as I write this.....I hope that I don't eat him!

I know how you feel. I was banded on Monday (5 days ago) and I am starving. I have had nothing but Protein shakes and Water, cyrstal light, etc. The first couple of days it didn't bother me, but I returned to work today and I have really gotten hungry. I am going to add some applesauce and yogurt tonight and see how that goes. I am sick to death of those Protein Shakes, so I added some unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder to Jello when I mixed it up. It is okay, but not what I really wanted. I can now have strained Soups, cream Soups, and yogurt and sugar free pudding. I can't wait to add the applesauce tonight...just a bit...to see what happens. I feel like if I could just have something with a little bit of Fiber, it would help. I look so forward to those Calcium tablets because I get to chew them and they taste like sweet-tarts. I am excited about the band and want to enter this new phase, but can't wait until I am on solid foods where you can really feel a restriction.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...
