Just thought I'd share for any of you who have yours still to come. I went in for mine yesterday at 9am. Completed paperwork and was off to get an iv. Unfortunately it took them 9 tries to hit a vein! I have very small hidey veins. After that it was a breeze though. I feel entirely out and woke up afterward with no idea of what went on. I had no sore throat as suggested and was groggy but that got better as the day went on.

Next week I have my follow up appt and then insurance approval and finally my surgery will get scheduled! I am soooo ready.

glad it went well, I ahve small hidey veins too. they can never get an iv in me, yet I can clearly SEE the veins on the backs of my hands. I cant figure out why its so hard.

Anyway, my DH passed out while they were getting me ready for my caesar, lol. What a wimp - it was ME they were sticking the thing into!

esesophagogastroduodenoscopy aka gastroscopy or upper GI

They stick a tube through your throat to check out your upper part of the gastrointestinal tract.

thanks for the info! I was so scared that I will be awake for this procedure. I had this done when I was 10...back in russia and I was fully awake for the entire procedure and they just numb my throat a little bit. I still remember the feeling after 19 years!

Question - how long did the procedure last?

I went in at 9am and was done by 1pm. It would have been quicker but it took awhile to get the iv in. I can't wait to get my results friday and get insurance approval.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
