Open Letter to Dr Horgan @UCSD

Recommended Posts

To Dr Horgan and his TEAM.

Ya'll ( ;o) Natalie ) are AWESOME !!!!! Professional , Coordinated, Attention to Detail, Showing Compassion and Concern for the Patient. Encouraging, Educational..... OMG I was blown away.

From the moment I first talked to Catherine Dooley on the phone, and I was so frustrated with the "office" I was working with, she was calm , professional , and made me feel at ease. I had hope for my situation! Each time I called she answered and was very helpful. If she didn't have the answer she returned my call with the information.

I didn't even have time to read all the articles in the magazine I was looking at, or barely listen to a couple of songs on my MP3 player. I had brought books, writing materials etc and didn't even take them out !!!!

I was slightly bummed I had to redo the seminar because I had already done one, or so I thought, ha ha ha. I was impressed, and I learned some new things. It was well presented and interesting. The Question and Answer time was great too, and the Team was very patient. They stayed even beyond "time" to answer more individual questions. THANK YOU!

I LOVE the fact that Dr Horgan and the team puts the patients to work with logging data on the lapband or realize site and that we are accountable! That is such an awesome requirement. Having set months to report back to be checked on is wonderful. I am clear what I can expect of you and I know and understand what is expected of me. Knowledge and Support lead to great power in life!

I know that changing groups after doing my pre-op with the other group would set me back 2-3 months HOWEVER I now KNOW WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT it is the BEST decision I have ever made, I am glad I listened to that little voice in my head. I am so excited to have found my way to you all. I know I will have my life back and my kids will be able to enjoy more of their mom and make great memories doing awesome things with me that I have been unable or unwilling to do because of my weight barrier.

Thank You to everyone who met with me, I really can't thank you enough other than be successful with your support. I can't wait to see you again.

I AM GETTING MY LIFE BACK!

HappyHomeCC,

Are you post-op? Perhaps you should review Dr. Horgan on here... My surgery is in a week. I'll be writing a review sometime after that. I love the entire staff at UCSD's CTO (Center for the Treatment of Obesity?). They are very warm and caring, even when you're stressed out and nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
