Anyone else Sick of liquids already?

Recommended Posts

I am on my 4th week of liquid and I ahve about had it. 2 weeks liquids only pre-op, liquids during surgery, and this is my 4th week. Eating Soups etc, but seriously ready for anything but .. lol..

Yes me also as well as 99 % of the people that have gone through it I would say. I had 10 days of Clear Liquids then banded then 1 day clear liquids and now am doing 2 weeks of liquids. Blended Soups, V8 things like that...I just want some real food :-) But that is part of our sacrifice for a better healthy life...so I would say well worth it we just gotta get through it and soon enough it will be over.:w00t:

I feel for you! I haven't even been banded yet and I'm feeling worried for the exact same reasons you all are here. . what if I get weak? what if my head wins? I did it before with phentermine, but had to stop because of the weirdo side effects of phentermine. . . goodness here we go, hubbie past a comment last night "who says your even getting the surgery?" That put my spirits WAY DOWN. . . you see all, I really hate arguements and fights so hubbie and I make all decisions together including this banding thing. . even though he keeps telling me I should lose weight for my health, he feels that I'm going to die with this band. . . it's taken me 1 1/2 years just to convince the man to come to a seminar. . . I already got approval for financing, he is willing to come to a seminar on the 19th, and now suddenly this. . . I bet he's just using this to get his power and control kicks. . . sorry to ramble on like this but i'm feeling rather down:confused:

Erykah, Keep your head up! :blushing: It's great you are willing and wanting the band. I have faith that health will prevail! The process I went thru in order to get the band helps keep me going when I'm on all liquids or feeling the need to over eat. My hubby was laid off after I spent months trying to convince myself and GP the band was for me. We got 2 months of cobra paid for by the ex company husbands worked for, but lost a month of that due to paper work and SLOW processing of paper work. I was on the phone hours each day trying to get us to show covered. Now as I watch the world eat, it helps me to remember the tears and frustration I went thru in order to get the surgery. Also, after my husband met the Surgeon that would be doing my Band, he felt a lot better about the whole thing. :w00t:

I was also banded on 9/4. Did the liquids for a day or so an moved on the the blended diet

I eat everything (meat and veggies), I just take the cooked food, Water it down with broth and put it in a blender and eat no more than 1/4-1/2 cup about every 2 to 3 hours.

For example I had porkchops, spicy roasted chilies, garden tomatoes and green Beans that way a few days ago. Had chili, and chicken pie (sans crust of course) that way as well.

I week post op and I am sick of the blended diet and started mushy stuff

Example: super-soft scrambled egg/mashed avocado/soft garden tomatoes, also had watermelon and a peach.

I never eat until I am full--just sticking to my 1/4-1/2 cup.

I do well for Breakfast with a Protein shake (plus frozen fruit--no seeds) or blended oatmeal. lunch I am okay with the blended stuff but dinner, boy of boy I have a 'need' to chew something.

I chew until liquid, counting the times I chew. I don't 'feel' anything, should I be concerned?

Should I stick 100% to my blended diet. Any advice?

BTW--the blended stuff is the way I use to feed my babies when they transitioned from breast milk to solids. I would Water down (with broth) all the stuff we ate, such as the meat, starch and veggies, and put it through a blender. I joke with my family that I am on our babyfood diet.

Hello nicegal, I am on my 16th day of clear liquids post-op. I am sticking to what the Dr. recommended. I see him on Tuesday AM. I know that the next stage will be stuff like baby food. boo :tongue2: lol If you are having a hard time sticking to your stage of the diet, I'd call the ol' Doc and ask that he/she move u forward. That's my advice....U just never know what could go wrong... Cheers!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
