Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately I can't blame Tom for my rotundness anymore. But what a funny story!!!

I'm back from singing rehearsal. Everything is Christmas now. Somehow I can't quite get in the mood yet, but it will come all too fast, for sure.

Going to watch the Pistons and then The Good Wife, a little Kindle and then off to bed. My knee is bothering me, but I'm just going to walk through it tomorrow.

Everyone have a great night.. sleep well!

Good morning, Violets..

Bummer news from Maine voters. I don't understand how people can just lie in media ads and get away with it.

I'm up and showered as I have to pick up Joe to take him to work today. Their car is not running. So we are the cabbies until they get the car to the shop to see what's up.

My knee is not doing so well this morning, but I'm still going to walk this afternoon with my brace on. I'm really not sure I'll be able to do Zumba with it feeling this way, but I'm going to give it one more try on Thursday. I hate to give it up, but I also hate to not be able to walk!

Off to get some Breakfast and get dressed. Everyone have a great day!

Hey Girls~

Very disappointed from the news in Maine. We keep on keepin' on! I just hope I am alive to see equal rights for LGBT peeps!

I don't have TOM anymore either, but I say we blame him for EVERYTHING! Then we can kick his ass too!

Had a wonderful workout this am w/ Madonna! I really pushed myself...and feel better. Can't imagine what I'd be feeling if I didn't work out. I work w/ some ASSHOLES...and smiling and pretending is just NOT cutting it for me this week. I am out tomorrow for a meeting, so I get a break from them...THANK GOODNESS!

OK...pop in later!

Laura...hello...miss you....are you eating? What is the haps girl!

As I type this (with one hand so forgive any typos), I am simultaneously dialing and re-dialing (gotta love the re-dial button!) the phone number that opened @ 9am for folks in our county to *try* to make an appointment for a swine flu vaccine. There are only 800 doses. This is the first batch that we've gotten in. Of course, I get either a busy signal, a fast busy signal, or a "all circuits are busy" message. This is what I expected, but it's still frustrating. I'm concerned about dd, w/ her asthma... if she got it, it wouldn't be good. Remember last winter when every time she coughed, she'd throw up, too?

This feels a bit like trying to win concert tickets off the radio when I was a teen!

Was I the only one that couldn't get on last night?

Pamela, I can't imagine what it is like to have my parents gone. I really can't imagine a life without them in it. I am sending you special hugs and prayers!!

Here is an oxymoron for you, I canceled the person that cleans my house because it was too messy?!?

How did the testing go Haydee?

Mae your nephew is too cute in that costume!! If he is only 2 he looks like he has some serious tall genes, or else the costume makes him look taller, and if that is the case, I am going to dress up like a dragon for the rest of my life!! Maybe for Haydee's wedding I will be Barney!

Okay enough, have a good day everyone!!!

Good afternoon, Violets...

Back from taking Joe to work and then heading to church to get some music run off for choir and flutes. Had a nice chat with the treasurer and my friend Betsy. We all have to go to retreat next Tuesday and none of us is pleased about it. At least we are all of one mind about this mess.

Michelle... hope you can get through on the phone. I sure understand your concern about DD and the flu.

Janie.. LMAO!!! You're a hoot! You can definitely be the Dragon Lady. And I'd be in the same boat as you if I had a cleaning person. Exactly the reason a dumpster is coming to our house today.

I'm off to go walk the mall and then figure out what to have for lunch.

I've had a headache ever since I woke up this morning. I slept from 11:45am - 2pm. I woke up and it's still here! It hurts to look through my eyes, if that's a helpful description. Ow. Wah. Feel fine all other ways, so don't think it's a flu. Hmmm.

I'm the same way when I have cleaning help... DH teases me because I'd clean up before she came! Ah, the good ol' days.

I want a dumpster, too! I'd just chuck out everything in every closet & the basement. Nirvana!

Michelle - it might be a sinus headache if it's hurting through your eyes... Does it help if you push against your forhead area? When that happens to me it's a sinus headache...

Jane - i would LOVE to see you in a barney costume, he he he... You would be the cutest barney ever!!

Pamela - that sucks about your work situation. What is making it so dificult? or what is the person doing to make is so dificult. It's always hard when your work life is less than ideal. You spend so much time with with co-workers that it should at least be "pleasant"...

I'm officially all caked out! I had my third and final tasting today. It was not good. I'm for sure going with my first choice. www.timtations.com

He does not have a fancy location, he's quiet and doesn't offer up alot of suggestions but his cakes taste AMAZING. And that's what I want, amazing taste. The two other bakeries I went to were all fancy schmancy. They had nice big shops with lots of styrofoam cakes out, a million pictures, lots of cake samples but their cakes were too dry and their icing was way sweet. So that's another check mark. I also found my DJ and am getting ready to sign a contract with him. I also found my cloth for the linens and have scheduled someone to come out and measure the tables so that I can buy the fabric so we can start production.

YAY YAY YAY... things coming together nicely...

Haydee...so much work, but I know you are having fun too! Plus, being in the bizz...well...you really have the know how. I CAN'T WAIT to see how it all plays out!

I had a 6th grade student get busted today for weed, cigs and a condom. I went in to talk w/ him and he told me he has been smokin' weed EVERYDAY for one year and five months! WOW...this is a 6TH GRADE kid. His dad is "in the pen for murder" and he said his mom wont be mad about the weed. I feel bad for him...he is a great kid in my class, and never gives me TOO much trouble. He is already on probation for breaking and entering...not good! He is 13! He has to get his shit together, or his life will be lots of the same. I am going to try to get him to an NA meeting when he comes back from suspension.

That is my day. Haydee, I just work w/ some unprofessional people...and we repeatedly excuse their behavior...and this week, I am tired of it!

Pop in later!

Oh wow. That's hard to even read let alone deal with. I can't imagine what I would do in your situation but I agree with Michelle, he's truly lucky.

Good evening, Violets..

Just back from choir rehearsal and had a nice bowl of veggy Soup. This time I made it with kielbasa and added some corn and used fresh veggies instead of a can of Veg-all. I put in a little cayenne pepper and it has a nice little kick. I had a sausage/egg burrito for breakfast and some tapicoa pudding for lunch. I had a couple of grapes, but they got caught and I ended up pb'ing them. yuck.

I walked 2 miles at the mall without my brace and that was a mistake. But I got a new one and wore it all afternoon and it felt good. We'll see what happens at Zumba tomorrow night. I warned Kris that I might not be able to continue with it,but she says I should just take it easy and do what I can. We'll see.

Off to watch the Pistons and then NCIS and Modern Family. Fun, fun!

Everyone have a great evening.. sleep well.

Hey girls...still shaken by today...feeling helpless!

Judy, do not try to "work through" the pain on your knee. Rest it w/ ice and let it heal before you exercise it again. That is my 2cents!

Have a great night!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
