I was driving to work and thought, "I forgot to ask about Ayla"...seriously!

A zebra, a skeleton, a dragon...waiting on Carson to chime in!

Yes, Claire's sticking w/her hippie theme... my camera died @ the Barn Halloween party or else I'd show you pics of C & Lady as hippies... I took a couple w/my phone, but that's the worst... if I can get them off I will post them... it was so funny... Lady had on a blond wig, a peace sign necklace, and a tie-dye blanket, + peace signs/hearts/flowers drawn on her all over... so funny!

Friends are coming here for dinner & t-or-t'ing tomorrow night... my house is an absolute SHAMBLES (I haven't had time to clean it, & evidently no one else who lives here notices, so...)... I'm hoping to get some cleaning time in today, + tomorrow morn... ugh. Don't know what I'm serving... something easy/portable as we'll be on the porch handing out candy... it may rain, which would be nasty...

What else?... oh yeah! Heather: pb'ing is bad... but having to do it while driving is the WORST -- been there! I feel for you!!

The rest of the weekend will be helping DS finish his at least 10-page paper on the French Revolution (+ comparing/contrasting it w/the Am Rev & English Civ Wars... yeah, right...), trips to the barn, soccer practices, & work.

Enjoy now!

Well, he is in bed by 6, so no Halloween-ing for him.. he's going to my parents as usual for Saturdays.

But I did get a costume, so he's been dressed up today

See if you can guess hah hah.

Oh and yes I'm fine, I have been reading the thread, just not much to say. :)

I had lunch out with a friend and had a bowl of turkey corn chowder. It was awesome. Had little bits of green chilies in it to give it a little kick.

Then we hit Walmart and I got a brace for my knee. Sure hope it helps! We're going out to dinner tonight for Nathan's birthday. Bob leaves tomorrow and I'm on my own for a couple of days. I plan on doing some serious house cleaning.

Laura... Carson is just the cutest little guy!!! I just love his smile. And he goes to bed by 6???? Grady doesn't go to bed until 9!

He's crawling all over the place now and is boosting himself up on everything he can trying to walk. Kris walked at 9 months so I'm expecting Grady to follow in her footsteps.. literally!!

Kris LOVED Zumba.. I sure hope I can keep up with it. It really is a good workout.

I LOVE corn chowder. Just LOVE it! I'm gonna look up a recipe for it so I can make it...

I had tacos from Jack in the Box. Makes my tummy hurt now.

It's 3'oclock and I'm OUTTA here...

HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNN

I love the rare corn chowder that doesn't have potatoes in it (I don't like taters IN food).

I had chips & cheese dip at Mexican Restaurant for lunch.

Yup everything's fine, it's just normally when I'm on the forum I have Carson in my lap or I'm on my laptop (I refuse to type letters, etc. on laptops, fingers are too big). I never have anything real important to say, just babbling, and if it's too hard to type at the moment, I don't think to come back later just to babble (like now!).

Carson is in bed by 6, but we have tried (in vain) to push back his bedtime, so he'll 'sleep in' later in the morning. He is up by 7am.. but anytime we try to keep him up later, even little at a time, it's a mess and he's so unhappy, so I gave up trying.

Now I just enjoy we get home from work, Russ plays with him for an hour and I put him to bed, and we're free for the rest of the night. Knocking on wood, I hope we stay this way for a while!!

I've gotten use to being up at 7, I just wake Russ up early now (Carson use to take a nap again around 8 and we'd get up at 9, be at work around 9:30)... now we just go into work around 8.

That's so exciting about Grady moving, Carson hates tummy time I don't know if he's ever going to crawl!

AND I am hungry for sweets, and seeing Reese Cups did not help. Ungh!!!!!!! lol SO glad I didn't buy real halloween candy this year.. I would be devouring it.

Ayla's schedule is usually 9 PM to 9 AM . . . or something like that. I can't see putting her to bed earlier because we miss her too much during the day and we want to spend some time with her.

I am afraid we might be spoiling her a bit. After waiting all day to see her, she gets constant attention at night amongst the rest of the family. Her babysitter is also the kind of person that gives her tons of one on one attention throughout the day. I am not sure she is going to know how to entertain herself in the future.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
