Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Laura -- maybe if toward the end you put aluminum foil over the edges to keep them from burning and to let the middle cook some more??

I am Episcopalian and we always had a Shrove Tuesday pancake Supper. Don't ask me what a Shrove is.....

Shrove Tuesday is a term associated in English-speaking countries with the United Kingdom and its Anglican traditions, especially Canada, Ireland, Australia,[1] New Zealand, and parts of the United States [2] for the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of fasting and prayer called Lent.

The word shrove is the past tense of the English verb shrive, which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by way of confession and doing penance.

There ya have it.. straight from the Net.

I'm reporting in with my eats so far today. Got up at 9 and didn't eat breakfast.. some Catholics fast today, so that was my fasting..even though I'm not Catholic. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I did 16 minutes on my glider, then showered, dressed and drove Ethan's mom to work so I could have my car for early choir practice tonight. I'm trying to choke down lunch right now. 2 eggs scrambled with some shredded mozzarella cheese and some chopped bacon, fat removed. It's going down really slowly. I'll have some blueberries with a little cream for snack a little later. Supper will be Soup at church before Ash Wednesday services. I'd like to get 10 more minutes of gliding in today, but not sure with Ethan here. I don't dare leave him downstairs by himself for 10 minutes and the room where the glider is, is really cramped. Oh well.. I'll figure something out.

Michelle... the last two weeks are history. Today is a new day, a new week, a new motivation. I weighed in and am at 189. So glad not to see the 190 especially after all the "fat" stuff I ate yesterday. However I know it might show up tomorrow or the next day, so I'm prepared and won't be discouraged.

Heather.. there are different recipes for paczki. I prefer the yeast ones. The cake ones are too.. well.. cakey. We get the ones with raisins or dates in. Bob likes the jelly filled. True they are just donuts.. but don't tell the ladies of St. Anne's church who made 750 dozen yesterday to sell to raise funds for the parish hall and scholarships!!! They worked from 3 a.m. til 2 p.m. ( and don't tell them I threw away the 4 that were left this morning).

Off to check email and continue s l o w l y eating my eggs.

Oh yeah, that sounds like LOADS of fun! I think I'll take Mardi Gras instead! Penance or partying? Hmmm... :(

Today's piehole report, so far:

B = vanilla chai pro shake

L = greek chicken salad: romaine, rotiss chix, feta, sundried tom slices, 5 olives, t. of sunflower seeds, Newman's greek sal dressing... nom nom!

... the plan for the rest of the day is a bottle of Water, another pro shake for dinner, and tea this eve while watching the Olympics.

Speaking of which... I keep going to bed later & later because of those things! But tonight is snowboarding! Don't want to miss it! Wah.

A friend who's boyfriend is the MS band director e-mailed me today and said she doesn't think the kids'll have school all week because the buses are still snowed in! :( WTF? I love her, but I hope she's wrong!

It's not really icy out there, just so much snow! We just don't have the resources or know-how to deal with it. That's the problem in a nutshell. And now when it melts a bit each day, and then re-freezes at night, the ginormous piles become solid masses of ice that can't be moved. So stuff that never got plowed or shovelled back when it was fluffy snow is now rock hard. And so it goes...

I decided against the blueberries for now and just had an orange. yums..

Believe me, I have done the partying and need to do the penance!! Will have ashes put on my forehead tonight and that will definitely be a reminder of a much bigger sacrifice than giving up sweets, carbs and slothfullness.

Michelle.. saw a news report last night about the people who are really upset with the snow piles. The streets are pretty clear, but they can't get their cars out. Been there, done that.. don't need to do it this year!!

Oh suzy, that's so good of you!

I meant to get to the gym yesterday but then my mother in law called me and told me that she need a report from me ASAP so I had to get home to do it. This was after putting in a 12 hour work day. I was up until 1am working on that.

Everyone is doing so good with the pieholes today. So far today I've had one cup of coffee with Creamer only. Then for lunch I had pho ga. Vietnamese chicken noddle Soup. I ate like 4 spoonfuls of the rice noddles. Mostly the chicken and the broth.< /p>

I have church tonight and when I wipe my ashes off my forehead I will use a little piece of fabric and then put that little piece up on the fridge. Like Judy I will use it to remind me of a much bigger sacrifice than sweets and junk...

Pam! I'm sure you'll be wonderful teef or no teef... Oh I would so love a pic right now!

Michelle - poor you. Poor kids. I'm sure everyone is sick of everyone. But on the plus side all that snow make everything look like a fairytale!

Laura - has the snow stopped where you're at?

Janey - we are going on our annual family trip to Isla Navidad. Isla Navidad Hotel - Wyndham Isla Navidad Resort Hotel Reservations

It's paradise there and we just love it. Have been going for the past 4 years. We always try to get the same room. They treat us like family there...

ack. It's already 4:30! I have to get moving. I don't want to stay late today.

Oh I had to take my dog to the vet today for a little rash on his back. Turns out it's Dimadex which is mites they get from their momma. My dog is 10 years old not a puppy and it's been dormant all this time! So the treatment is pretty harsh and it will get alot worse before it gets better. Not looking forward to this!

Dear Violets, please keep my MIL, Sheila Mylastname, in your prayers for healing. If you remember, she had lung cancer & surgery last Fall & got the "all clear" at the end of the year. Well, she didn't feel great when we were in MX. She's now in the hospital w/a suspicious mass on her adrenal gland undergoing a LOT of testing, and it's not looking all that great @ the moment... dh said something tonight about having to remove the gland & her kidney... also that there's another shadow behind her aorta? Thank you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
