Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Michelle, Aqua Tai Chi sounds awesome and there is nothing better than soaking in a bubbly hot tub after a good workout, except maybe hanging out in the sauna, lol.

Judy, I have suffered with reflux every night this summer before my band was replaced. It is awful and it really tears your throat up. I ended up with a perpetual cough that was only due to irritation in my throat. I really hope you feel better soon. I did have it last summer as well before I got pregnant but a small un-fill instantly fixed it.

Pamela, Have you ever heard of a neti-pot? I had continuous sinus issues and congestion due to allergies for almost all of my adult life but they are almost non-existent now. A neti-pot works great if you are really congested or sick but I actually just cup my hand and snort some Water up my nose about three times in a row every day (not strong enough to go anywhere but in the sinus cavity) and then I blow it back out and it has eliminated 90% + of my problems without medication. A quick search lead me to this website if you are curious to see it: http://www.healingdaily.com/exercise/neti-pot.htm. It looks gross and sounds gross but it really works . . . sorry if I sound like a commercial.

I have to say that if I made eggs in coconut oil every morning for Breakfast . . . I would lose a lot of weight because the thought kind of grosses me out, lol.

Laura, I didn’t know what a lovey was either at first. I actually have 2 as gifts and didn’t even know what they were called, lol. They have silken borders that Ayla loves to slobber on. J I guess you learn something new everyday.

My son had some bad experiences in daycare at about ages 2-3 and I went to private in-home care. However, I know there are a lot of good daycares out there and one bad experience doesn’t mean anything in the larger scheme of things. Every daycare is different. Your best bet when you are searching is to pop in at different times of day and see if they will give you a walk-through of all the rooms so you can get a feel for the atmosphere. I would never recommend going during open house times because you know that everyone is geared up for company. I think daycare can be very good for learning socialization skills at that age if you have an only child or if other children in the household are considerably younger.

Ayla actually goes to my best friends mother-in-law. She is Turkish and does not speak more than a handful of words in English but this is fine for us because we speak the same language. We are happy with this because we want her to be fully bilingual and she gets tons of English exposure but she will need more Turkish exposure since we primarily speak English at home (unless my son is listening in on a private conversation and we don’t want him to know what we are saying, lol). She is absolutely wonderful and I know that Ayla is very well cared for every day.

Janie, as far as the kick me goes . . . I am sending one your way, lol. Actually for me, it is always hard to find motivation again but if I can find the strength to stay on task for 1 week, it gets soooo much easier and becomes second nature afterwards for at least a few weeks to a few months.

Ayla got transferred from our room and bassinet/our bed occasionally to her crib in her own room about two weeks ago. It worked beautifully. Most nights she sleeps from 10:00 to 4:00 or 5:00 AM, drinks a bottle for about 20 minutes and then sleeps again until 7:00 or so. The night before last she didn’t wake up for her early morning feeding. I would say for all intents and purposes she is sleeping through the night unless she is feeling a little sick and then that flies out the window. My son never slept through the night until he was more than one year old. I tried to let him cry it out but it didn’t work. Every child is soooo different it can be amazing. Perhaps if I had Ayla first I would have more than 2 kids, lol.

Haydee, I would make my own invitations but that is just me. So I was wondering, if you plan weddings for other people, does that make planning your own super easy to do? Do you get huge business discounts on items because of your profession?

Heather, yes thank you. Susanne had to buy one, but she never used it. Perhaps I will. I have already blown my nose 4 times during 1st period alone! I sound as sick as ever, but feel a lot better. Hope I can have some rum punch at the partay tonight! Thanks, I read the entire article. I will try it over the weekend!

Laura, the daycare that Kinsey goes to has what they call Mommy Cams---there are cameras in each of the rooms, and you get a log in when you register, and she can log in anytime--it is ALWAYS up on her computer and see what Kinsey is doing at any given time, she can see how she is interacting with the kids, and when she is napping etc.

They also have EXTREMELY stringent check in and check out procedures, and while they will allow a guest into the lobby, and will discuss daycare with them --- they are not allowed back where the children actually are. Kinsey has an ID card on the face of her cubby, it has to be swiped, and whoever is checking her out has to be on the list, and have their picture ID, as well as signing her out, along with the teacher who releases her, initialing it.

I was kind of shocked by the strict guidelines, I had not been out of the business that long I didn't think!!!

We had a clipboard for each group, and the kids were signed in and out, and whoever picked them up had to be on the permission slip they filled out when enrolling, but that was it!

Prior to that, when I did it in my home, I always ask that the parent bring anyone by to introduce to me, who may be picking their child up.

In Kinsey's day care she takes her lunch, and she cannot take anything with Peanut Butter, or peanuts in it. She is not supposed to have more than one small sweet in it, they promote healthy eating.

I provided lunch when done in home, and had a HUGE snack bowl!!! They did not have open access to it, but when it was snack time THEY got to choose their snack-----the bowl had fruit, cheese &cracker packages, Little Debbie Snacks, all kinds of things!

Even when I went outside the home, I kept the bowl going. Some of the kids ate the same snack EVERY day! Others loved the choices! And easily just as many kids chose the bags of grapes or the apples, or the little cups of mandarin oranges as they did the little cakes, and sweets. I heard lots more kids say they didn't ever get grapes at home than kids who said they never got Twinkies at home!

Now is the time to start looking around tho---I think that is a wise move. Many churches have a daycare attached, and several here have looooong waiting lists! Which in itself speaks highly. I always got more interest when I was full up than when there was room open! LOL

Good Luck on the hunt. And you might consider a look at the local college---a friend of mine, has a girl who comes to her house to watch her daughter for 5 hours a day, and she is a student who is working towards a degree in early childhood education, but needs spending money. She fills out papers for the student who gets credit for the work she is doing.

When my Grandma got so ill with Alzheimers, we hired a woman going to nursing school, we found through the college, and she did the same thing, she would sleep there at night, and was there if Gma needed something. It worked out wonderfully.

Staying home with Kinsey today who is feeling good again, but has not been fever free for 48 hours, and with the H1N1 scare, that is the new rule at her daycare, and Manda had a meeting with the "wheels" today---------so I took the day off with her, didn't hurt my feelings none!!

She is knee deep in Barbies! I love listening to her play them....she makes them nice, and when one was saying ugly things a minute ago, she was put in time out!!! LOL

Wow that is strict Kat, I haven't heard of any of that around here.. although I just started looking into it.

The neti-pot... my allergist gave me a sinus rinse. She said I could get a neti-pot if I wanted, but the sinus rinse should work fine. I was grossed out by it, took me 2 weeks to get the guts to do it. Ends up it was nothing, even felt good (I thought shooting crap in my nose was going to hurt). It was just a bottle you mix saline solution.. and it rinsed out my nose and voila.

I agree. The neti-pot works fine but it is not always necessary. Even just rinsing with Water works great, saline is better, and the neti-pot would be the highest level . . . but they all work. :0)

I'm just back from swimming in the hotel pool and soaking in the hot tub. We went shopping today and I got some antacid to take so I don't go through another night of misery. I slept with 3 pillows and was just about sitting straight up the whole night after the incident. I can't tell you how much I hate that feeling.

I had a rubbery egg and sausage here at the hotel, and for lunch I had some clam chowder and 1/2 a grilled swiss cheese sandwich. We are going to Olive garden for supper. I'll probably have the Soup. The Bobster is hungry for spaghetti. We'll see how that goes!

We'll hit the casino tomorrow morning on our way home. We got a beautiful birdbath for our garden yesterday. Going to stop at the same place and get some veggies to bring home.

Off to check messages and then head out to the mall.

Catch you later!

Good evening, Violets..

Had a great day today. Weather was absolutely beautiful. I got my swimming in this afternoon and it was a good thing. There are lots of kids here today for the weekend and the pool is crowded. We went to Olive Garden and ordered the neverending Pasta bowl. That ended up being 1/2 a bowl for me. I had angel hair pasta with alfredo/spinach/parmesan sauce. It was great. I added italian sausage to it and thought it would be little pieces, but it ended up as two big sausages. I ate a couple of bites of one and the rest of the food got thrown away. No place to keep it here at the hotel.

We just walked around the mall and did basically nothing. It's been a great get away.

Tomorrow is casino day on our way home. Hope we can come away at least breaking even. we'll see.

Have a great evening. Everyone sleep well!!

Oh, I took two antacid pills so I hope they work!! Haven't had anything to eat since dinner at 5:30. I do NOT want another night like last night. Ever!!

Good morning, Violets..

Had a great night's sleep with NO reflux. I'm going to keep taking the antacid pill before bed and hope that continues to work. I was soooooo happy to be able to sleep on my belly and not sitting almost straight up.

We're just getting around and will check out, go out for brunch and then head to the casino, the food/plant stand to get some veggies and plants for the garden and then head home. I miss my little doggies..

Everyone have a great day.

((hugs)) to you all and a special kick for Jane! :(

Good Saturday Morn, Vi's~~

It's an absolutely gorgeous morning here in MD... the sun is shining, the air is crisp, the birds are singing... I've got all the windows open and my Spiced pumpkin candle burning... I love Fall!

Not much on the agenda today... I have to work, actually (the life of the self-employed!), then dd has poms @ a football game this afternoon. A slow day by our standards!

Make it a good one, everyone!

I think all the kicks might be helping a bit. Fourth day of writing all my food on the daily plate.

Slow day at work today...........

I am going to be doing paperwork Sunday and Monday. If you all remember I accidently erased all my information for the 2009 in May or so from Excel. I have not dealt with it at all since then. So I must do something!!!

Everyone drive safe and have a great weekend!!

Good evening, Violets..

We got home about 3. I was in the pool at 3:30 and floated around in the sun and warm Water until 4:30. Came inside and we were getting things ready for supper. I asked Bob to cut the butternut squash in half for me. Welllllll in the midst of me getting the water ready for the sweet corn, I hear an OH SHIT.. I turned and looked and Bob had sliced his hand. I said we're going to the ER.. he said, no I don't think it's that bad. He looked at it and said... oooops.. I think we better go. Wellllll, we were there for 2 hours. He sliced an artery AND a tendon. The doc was able to sew everything back together without him having to see a hand specialist. He's now splinted and wrapped up and in pain. He had a very strong antibiotic iv'd in for a half hour.

Sooooooooooo it's been a very exciting evening back home. And no squash for dinner!!

He's going to have a heck of a night tonight. I feel so sorry for him. He just ordered new golf clubs and they are to arrive this week. He can't do anything with his left hand for 2 weeks at least. That means I'll be mowing the lawn and getting the garden ready for fall. YIKES!!

Everyone have a good night and sleep well. I'll check in, in the morning.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
