Amount of Weight Lost During 6 Month Supervised Weight Mgmt.

Recommended Posts

I am a first time poster so I hope I do this correctly. I just finished my 6 month Supervised Weight Mgmt Program. I have Cigna insurance and during that 6 months I lost 39 lbs. My PCP tells me not to worry about the amount of weight that I have lost. That is not what they are looking for. I have lost the same 39lbs so many times. I am so worried that since I lost 39 lbs then they will assume that I can just continue to lose. I know me. I will fall off eventually and gain all the 39 lbs back and then some.

I am really excited about this process and am really worried about this weight loss period. Am I worrying when I don't need to be. Has anyone had Cigna and been turned down because of to much weight loss during the 6 month period. I have been on such a roller coaster I will have a hard time bouncing back if I am denied. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Jani

Wish I knew the answer for your insurance. I have United Health Care and I too wondered if I could have lost too much weight during my six month supervised diet. I was so afraid I might not be approved my my insurance. I lost 47 pounds and was still approved. My surgeon thought as long as my BMI was still as morbidly obese after the weight loss that I would probably be approved. Also, I have heard that they go by your pre-diet weight. But still, I was concerned about the approval after being told those things. It's so easy to imagine the worst.

I hope someone has the answer for you.

Hang in there and I'll be crossing my fingers for you.

I have cigna and I lost 21 pounds on the 6 month diet. I was told that it doesn't really matter how much you lose as long as you don't gain any weight. As I understand it they are just making sure that you can change your eating habbits after the surgery. I was told though also not to lose an extreme amount of weight. As long as your bmi is still over 40 (or 35 w/ 2 co-morbidities) you should be fine.

Thanks everyone for your help. That makes me feel better! I'm looking forward to working with a nutritionist again and get prepared for this life change.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
