Help Needed from Banders!

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on Monday, and I am hoping I am doing everything right. I am really sore where the five incisions were made, but am doing pretty well. I have gone walking several times each day, today for about a fourth of a mile. I have had a little bit of bloody seepage from the port site, but everything feels right (just very sore).

I am not really hungry at all, but I am burping a lot. I am drinking my 2 ounces of shake every three hours, and I have gotten in about forty ounces of Water throughout the day today. I just seem to be burping like crazy. Is this normal?

I want to do this right, and I am planning on going back to work on Tuesday, so I want any advice you have to give me. Thanks so much for your help and support in the pre-banding process. Together, we can do this!

You are right on track. Everything you mentioned is normal. Lots of burping and gurgling sounds. My appetite has just begun to come back. I had to make myself drink my 2 oz of shake and drink my Water. Make sure you get as much rest as you can also. You know you have to have healing time.

Hi:

Sounds like you're doing most of the right things. Are you taking a liquid Vitamin too? Try to get some extra rest too because it will help with healing.

Not sure what kind of work you do, but I would have been able to go back to a desk-type job after about four or five days, however I had plenty of time so I took two weeks off to laze around the pool and get used to my new eating/drinking style.

Best wishes to you newbie!

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

If you are ONLY burping you are lucky! Some of the gas comes from the surgery, I think the rest is just from the "new" slow way you are digesting your food now. I am a gas factory and my husband finds it really funny. I was banded in March and it is just starting to get better. I recently started taking B6 and Aloe Vera, they help with metabolism and digestion. I try to always have some type of gas pill with me because I can get gas from iced tea!

You are doing the right thing, walking was a lifesaver for me. I was up in the middle of the night just walking in the house to get relief. Keep up the good work, follow what the doc says.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
