What types of exercise?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm just about 3 weeks post op and haven't exercised at all. I know that I can't do the "hard" exercising until 6 weeks, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do until then? You all are doing so great! I feel really confident asking you guys!

Thank you in advance!

Walking was the best thing that worked for me. Outside, inside, even a dvd called walk away the pounds

Walk walk walk! It may be a bit difficult three weeks post op, but it will start to get a lot easier. I started walking for 20-30 minutes a day and then added a stationary bicycle to the mix. Just learn your limits and stick to them.

Walking of course is #1 but I am also starting Water aerobics. I am hoping that it will help with the weight loss.

I am 4 weeks post-op and I have been rollerblading, biking, walking, and Wii Active for 2 1/2 weeks now. I love it. I find it soo much easier to move around now even though I have only lost 29 lbs. My Dr. told me the only restriction I have for exercising is ab work until 6 weeks post op.

Walking is an excellent way to start incorporating exercise because you can keep increasing your distance, walk with hand weights, ankle weights, "wog" -- which is walk with intervals of jogging, even if the jogging is only a short distance at first. Using these techniques you can adjust your exercise to your increasing abilities and continue to benefit from a walking program. When you start feeling stronger, incorporate some weight training (which you can do without becomeing "muscle bound").

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
