Hello,

My name is Wisteria and I have gone through all of the necessary steps to get lap-band surgery; I am just waiting for approval from my insurance company.

I am 34 years old and have been majorly overweight for about 10 years now and I cannot get it off! So here I am!

I weigh 211.5, my BMI is 41%, and height 5'0".

I am pre-diabetic on medication so that is a MAJOR part of my decision. Also of course heart attack and heart disease are both in my family. I have asthma since gaining all of the weight as well as back issues. Had surgery on my back and gained A LOT of weight since then (MAJOR part of my weight gain by the way). Also have sleep apnea and acid reflux. Take several meds and need to sleep with a mask at night.

I am just not healthy. I exercise, but it is so hard to when you are big. I have hiked, biked, kayaked, ran, walked, jogged, etc... And I end up quitting after a few months. It is just so hard... especially walking/hiking up a hill! All this weight is killing me... literally!

Nice to meet all of you. Glad I am here. I cannot wait for surgery.

All the best to you all on your journeys.

Hi Wisteria! Welcome to our family!!

I was banded about 9 weeks ago and it feels great. Before surgery I couldn't even walk a block without gasping for air! This past weekend I was able to walk 3 miles without even breathing heavy!!

Good luck!

Hey Wisteria:

My name is Betty Kay and I just joined today. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 16th and then they will submit my paperwork. So I don't have a date yet. My major reason for doing this is that I recently had a TIA (mini stroke) and they could not find a reason. It was attributed to being so over weight. So here I am. Anyway, good luck!

I'm glad to have no issues but my Dr. still has me with my inhalers in case something comes up. It's nice to not have that issue all the time to deal with.

Hi G'ma and thanks for replying!

WOW 9 weeks and you can breathe better? OMG! Very good for you... congratulations! :sneaky: Was it difficult with the change in diet and having to exercise more, or does it just plain feel great?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
