Going for surgery consult

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am going for my consultation with the surgeon tomorrow, Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that he will accept me as a patient, and that I will get insurance approval. I only have about 80 pounds to lose, but to me that is alot when you get out of breath just bending over to tie your shoes, and get out of breath just walking up one flight of stairs. Don't get me wrong, I have sympathy for anyone overweight, and I am supportive of anyone that wants to get help with their weight. Edna

Edna, Good luck tomorrow. I will keep my fingers crossed. I am also just starting my journey and it does not come fast enough. I have 100-110 to lose. I think you need to lose 75 pounds or more. I am not sure though. Sue

Hi, most insurance will pay for the surgery if you have a letter of medical necessity, which I do. I have diabetes, high bp, high cholesterol, and a hiatal hernia, so I am hoping that I will be approved. Edna

Edna, I was so nervous when I went to my surgeon so I know exactly how you feel. They say I have 85 lbs to lose but its more like 95 - 100. 85 lbs puts me at the high range of the weight scale.

Hang in there and just know that God is with you.

HUGS !!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
