My surgery is scheduled for September 24th and they have given me my list of liquid diets for the different phases. They has told me that you really won't be hungry after the surgery and you really don't want to eat.

I'm curious about the second week, because it just a thicker liquid diet. Will that hungry feeling come back? Any suggestions ?

I think it's different for every individual. My first fill was scheduled for six weeks out, and if memory serves me, it was around four weeks that I started getting my hunger back. I upped my meal intake from 1/2 cup to almost one cup 3x/day, and made sure my snack was a good solid Protein (per doctor's recommendation). I've read that others were hungry right off the bat though.

Everyone is different. I had a couple friends that were hungry 1 and 2 weeks out. I know there are some people on this board who said they were hungry waking up from recovery.

I personally wasn't wanting to eat anything until around day 3, and by then I was on puree food so that held me over with no problems besides mental hunger. Mental hunger was always an issue because hello I want a real burger not this pureed chili crap! But I was one of the fortunate people to have a decent amount of restriction up until my first fill so I had no problems eating the portions I was supposed to. My understanding is that my situation was rare.

Yes, it's different. I was hungry as soon as I woke up! I recovered VERY fast though; no swelling, no issues drinking Water, no nausea, etc. It depends on many factors.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
