Yes, I was banded 2 years ago october 2007. We tried taking Fluid out. That didn't work. We tried emptying it. That didn't work. The good news is that the second surgery was a breeze. Most of the discomfort is in the port site and they leave that alone. So pain was minimal. You do have to start all over again with your diet though...good luck!

How did you know your band slipped? Did you have problems or symptoms?

Hey trapped thanks for the post. Yeah my doc tried anaprtial unfil but was completely unsatisified with the results. I'm gald to hear the the surgery was successful and mninimal pain. My first one was pretty uneventful as well so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I am toally bumped about 2 weeks on liquids again, but hey Ifigure it willa llow me to make up the time and the weight i havent been losing from the unfill.

The first indication of band slippage for my doctor was that I was having alot of heart burn but i wasnt at optimal retriction. When the heartrurn set in she immediately thought that I was too tight. But ik ept telling her that that wasnt the case that I didnt feel like i had reached my green zone yet. so after 2 months of slowly getting unfilled she opted for an esophogiagram and it showed the slippage. We then did an unfill down to 3cc's which she thought would correct it but no such luck.

DD- When did you start experiencing the heart burn? Was it after a fill or from the beginning? Sorry if I am being too personal, I'm just afraid.

Hey FNM (i just cant bring myself to call you fatty:biggrin:)- I started having heartburn about 2 weeks after a fill that i had in march and it got progressively worse and more frequesnt. it finally fgot to the point were it was allthe time even after drinking Water and you could hear it. not just me, but people around me could hear it. then it got to the where it would wake me up from a dead sleep in the middle of the night. it was pretty bad and medication didnt do anything for it

Thansk DD for the information...Any info I can get I'll take. My biggest fear is messing this tool (lapband) up. So far I love it. I also haven't had a fill yet. Not until the 17th of Sept. I'm nervous, but looking forward to that appt. I can tell I don't have the same restriction I had after the surgery, most likely do to reduction of swelling from the surgery. Thank you soo much for your post.

You are so encouraging. I have a slip and I have to have my band replaced. I see the doctor on Thursday to see what he wants to do for sure but I can't eat anything but liquids without severe pain for several hours. I'm glad to know that the surgery for the replacement is not bad.

thank you! I would talk to your doc and express to him that you are in pain and u would like to have this fixed sooner than later... The longer u wait the pain will get worse.... If u have any questions feel free to ask me! Have a good weekend.

I agree, I am really anxious to get it taken care of. We are planning to leave for vacation on Sept 30 and I want it over by then. The idea of waiting until we get back is not the least bit appealing. As it is, it'll be a cheap vacation with me on Protein Shakes most of the time. Oh well, can't be helped.

What actually causes a slippage?

I wish I knew. My doctor did tell me that it probably wasn't anything I did, small comfort????

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
