complications 16 days post op infection

Recommended Posts

well here goes, i was 16 days post op and doing i guess ok, and then wham, wednesday night it hit me so bad, i had soooo much abdomal pain like twisting, cutting etc, i first thought it was something i ate, or i got the flu, but the pain never went away, then i thought my band slipped, or port twisted, finally enough was enough and i went to emergency room, they diidnt know what it was, i was put in a room with fluids and pain meds for a day and a half and when i told doctor about foul odor and direaha, he said sounds like i had a infection from the antibotics they gave me on surgery day and it was right in the right time frame, so they gave mw more antibotics, i am home now but the pain still comes and goes, i feel bloated all the time and when i move a certain way it hurts, expecially when i try to cough or sneeze, i have to hold my stomach alot to do this, has anyone else had this happen to them, i still feel like i am rejecting my band or something else is wrong, and to top it off, i didnt eat anything in the hospital and i gained 5 lbs, go figure,

I'm so sorry you're having to go thru this!

Have you talked to your SURGEON? He/she needs to be informed that this is going on. I'd also say you need to get looked at again.

Don't let this go too long, it could kill you!

Take care and best wishes!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
