It's hard - that is for sure. If I were you I would call your doc's office and let them know how hungry you are, ask about adding a little more Protein - but get their okay. My doctor's office allowed me to have a cup of milk between meals. Sometimes you just have to ask them what you can do to get you by... it doesn't hurt to ask!

Even though the food is pureed, I would suggest against foods that are that high in fat. The dressing and potato salad are way high in carbs and fat. My Dr. wouldn't allow such things in my post-op diet. It was very specific. Just my .02

Cindy, What do you typically eat in a day?

Cream of wheat was on my "full Liquids" portion of my post op diet. I got the instant version of the healthy grain cream of wheat and 4 oz keeps me full for 4 hours. (I haven't had my fill yet either) I use the brown sugar version of splenda very sparingly.

ALSO... greek yogurt...WOW... I got that off the food and nutrition part of this website and I am so glad I found it.

It is soo thick and satisfying 4oz= 60 cal. and 7.5 Protein

I have been mixing that with sugarfree jam and splenda AND pureeing canned salmon, tuna etc using it like MAYO...just add some seasonings. You won't even know the difference.

I have been starving too... So I am looking for food items that stick around a bit more than Soups.. High Protein, some Fiber and few carbs. >>>I am thinking purred cauliflower next because it can taste just like mashed potatoes.

I also got the cookbook recommended by other lapbandsters called Eating well after weightloss by Levine and someone else. It addresses the pureed stage.

I have been eating Protein Shake for Breakfast, Soup and chicken salad for lunch, yogurt mid afternoon, cottage cheese or soup or chicken salad for dinner, Jello or pudding for snack. I feel like I could sit down and eat a normal meal. I also have trouble drinking 64 oz. of Water I'm lucky if I get down 32 oz. I can't wait for 9/17 and my first fill, I am scared I am going to gain weight or stretch my pouch:confused:

Thank god its not just me then. I had my surgery on Aug 10. The last week or so I have been starving about 3 hours after I eat. Due to scheduling I dont get my 1st fill till sept 21. I have been drinking half a Protein Shake between meals, it helps some.

I was banded on August 12, 09. I am also starving. I called my doctors office and was told by my doctor that i could have Protein Shakes. I have lost only 18lbs. I am on mushy foods. I was told that i wont get a fill until about 6 to 8 weeks from my surgery date. My weight loss is from me walking 4 miles a day and working out at the gym. If I don't watch what I eat, I will gain 2 or 3 lbs back.

Cindy, it looks like you are eating well. I understand that Protein will help put off hunger. Instead of regular yogurt for a snack, what about trying FF Greek yogurt w/blueberries or other fruit for a snack. 1/2 cu has 10g of protein. Or make your own SF/FF instant pudding & add Protein powder. That also has 10g protein.

I'm with you on drinking Water. I very rarely get in 8 glasses, but I try hard to get in at least 6. I like Isopure zerocarb Lemon Green Tea. I mix it half with regular green tea, and drink it throughout the day. Half a bottle has 20g protein.

Hope these suggestions help.

Joan

Thank you for your suggestions. Guess what today I had an appointment with my Drs. nurse and I told her how hungry I was and they are moving my first fill to 9/9 instead of 9/16! They said they will do one on 9/9 and I can have my second on 9/16 and my third on 9/30:thumbup: She also said they will numb the area.

I got some unflavored Protein Powder (I think it's New Whey, but there are many brands) and occasionally mix it with something strong flavored, like tuna, to increase the Protein content.

Since cream of wheat is allowed, I figured polenta is allowed (not sure). So, I've been baking some pre-made polenta, with a ramekin of low fat ricotta (you could probably also use cottage cheese) mixed with garlic powder, pepper and dried chives. I top it with pizza sauce (I found one very low sugar). I put red pepper flakes in the pizza sauce. A little parm on top. I bake for 30 - 40 minutes or so and let sit for 10.

Savory, mushy and filling. I measure out the portion so I'm not eating too much.

I've also pureed black bean Soup, topped it with a little shredded cheddar and really mashed home made quac. I think I may have had it over a slice of polenta as well.

Filling as well.

Mmmmmm. I hadn't thought of polenta. I'm definately going to make some. Tks for the suggestion.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
