I'm 3 days post op. Thought I've been doing well. I was on liquids at first and then on to pureed foods. Today I have wretched a few times, thinking it's stuck burps? I'm winded and tired. My nurse said I need more Protein and fluids. It's so hard to have protein when I feel I have a brick in my stomach. I thought I was doing everything right till today...tomorrow I'll have just liquids kinda start over...will the stuck burp feeling go away?:frown:

I didn't have the brick feeling, but I couldn't burp for prob a good 2-3 weeks after surgery.... Now I'm about 6 weeks after surgery and I feel like I can't quit burping! I do sometimes feel a little discomfort at night when I'm lying down flat on my back or when I turn from side to side.. Anyway.. hang in there.

I know each of us are different and have different instructions to follow from our surgeon. I was told to do only liquids for 2 weeks, the first 7 days only Clear Liquids and then the next 7 days I could add Protein shakes. The first week was all I could do to drink Water, have a little low sodium chicken broth and sugar free popsicles. By the 8th day I was ready for a bit more and welcomed the Protein Shakes. I found slim-fast low carb version was pretty good... drank it all over a period of 2 hours... then went online and purchased powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury which is pretty good too.

The first week I felt really full and always wanted to burp - sometimes not able to - but found taking a long walk really helped. Personally I think it is really important to let everything heal before introducing mushies...

But I can tell you that it gets better every day... and I'm only 18 days out.

Thank you all...this site is so helpful. What I'm concered about is the Dr wants me to have 60 grams of Protein a day how can I possibly do that..I'm losing weight kinda fast right now, I'm concerned I will get saggy...also I don't want to lose my hair. My dr actually had a Vitamin made that has everything we need and we buy it through him. So I know I'm getting all the Vitamins I need just over worried maybe? Thank you so much!!!

hugs: My surgeon's instructions say that for the first 7 weeks or so after surgery, I should expect to get all or most of my Protein requirements in liquid form: shakes, Isopure or other clear Protein drinks, etc. I can't imagine that your surgeon would expect you to EAT 60 to 70 grams of Protein so soon after your surgery. So try to find some concentrated forms of Liquid Protein and get that worry, at least, off your mind. Here are a couple suggestions.

Do you have a GNC near you? They have a 24 oz, clear liquid drink called Pro Performance AMP Amplifed Wheybolic Extreme 60 (in fruit punch and blue raspberry flavors) with 60 grams of protein in it and I'm pretty sure no fat and no carbs. If you can only drink small amounts, you can sip 8 oz of this 3 times over a whole day and you should get most of the protein you need. I won't lie and say it tastes delicious, but it's drinkable. Also, there are various kinds of protein bullets that are very concentrated sources of protein. Here's where you can order one online: http://www.bariatricchoice.com/bariatric-clear-protein-supplements-63.html. It's called IDS New-whey Liquid Protein, 42g Protein in a 3.4 oz vial. Once again, not particularly yummy, but hey, it's 3.4 oz and you'll feel lots better for drinking them. Variations of these bullets are available at smoothie King and/or Walmart, though I don't know if the WalMart ones are of the same quality.

P.S. I also haven't been able to burp much and it's fairly uncomfortable feeling like you need to, but being unable to. But I'm 8 days post-op now and I've had the issue less and less. In fact, I don't think I've felt that way today at all. Yay!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
