Home from th hospital.....gas pain in shoulder

Recommended Posts

I was banded 7/31/09 (four weeks ago) and the left shoulder pain continued for three weeks. Walking really helped me most. I found the pain was worse at night when I went to bed, so a pain pill was the best option for sleep. It does go away. I was beginning to wonder, but haven't had any shoulder pain in just over one week.

My gas pain in my shoulder really bites, unfortunitly you just have to wait for it to go away. And walk alot it is from the co2 they gave you in surgery and it just takes the body time to reabsorb this. I had my band places on 8-27-09

I have had 3 abdominal surgeries before: 2 c-sections and then gall bladder removal) and I had the gas pains really bad in my shoulders in each of them. The only things that helped me were (1) walking and (2) a heating pad. Instead of a heating pad that you plug in, I have this homemade "bag" that has rice or Beans or something in it that is heavy. I think that the weight of it combined with the heat really helped a lot. I lived with that thing on my shoulders for days!

I am 14 day out and am having a terrible bout of shoulder gas pain. Gah. I agree that it's worse than the abdominal pain. It's a stabbing jabbing pain that grates my nerves.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
