Hello all-

I was just wondering if any of you have this / had this issue after being banded. Or maybe experiencing it now.

I was banded on July 20th. I have no complaints, except i am completely exhausted by 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I start to shiver, my hands and feet get so cold i cant stand it and i just want to go to bed. This has now been happening for about a week.

I do take my Vitamins, but spuratically. Im pretty sure i dont get my 80 grams of Protein in. Im trying to do this, but its so hard.

I go to the Doctor and the Dietician both on 9/2, and i wont call them before that.

So i was just wondering - do you think its just a lack of nutrients?

I feel completely fine in the morning after a FULL (from 8pm to 5am) nights sleep. I drink down a Water and some coffee first thing and i feel great. But come afternoon, im just done.

any responses are greatly appreciated.

Are you on blood pressure medicine. I was banded July 21, feeling fine in the morning but starting around 2 in the aftn the bottom fell out, I would have to lay down. Around 5 pm I started feeling better. I started monitoring my BP and discovered I was dropping at that time, so the Doctor had me go off my bedtime meds, and now I'm feeling better. I am still monitoring, and hopefully it won't be long until I'm off the AM meds. Hope you start feeling better

Nope, no blood pressure meds. As a matter of fact, my pressure has always been low. Im fat, but have always had low blood pressure. When i was in the hospital and they kept taking my vitals it was like 89 / 55. They kept retaking it and retaking it. Now you've got me wondering if it could be too low... uuggghhh

Poor nutrition, poor hydration, lack of good sleep, all those things and many more could make you feel the way you describe.

Aim for at least 60 grams of Protein a day. READ nutritional labels and pick things that are high in Protein. Do you like cottage cheese? Guess what? 1/2 cup of cottage cheese has about 12 grams of protein! A boiled egg has 7 (if I remember correctly).

Are you getting 8 hours of sleep? Most Americans are sleep deprived. Try getting 8 hours tonight and see how you feel at 3:00 PM.

I am hypoglycemic and that happens to me sometimes. It sounds like you are getting your Protein in though but maybe too much. Try to back off of that but it is definitely a discussion for your doc. I take my Vitamins religously.

I find that happening to me around 4pm! Im always tired and neep to take a nap...I could be doing NOTHING all day but around 4pm I jus need 2 nap....Even when I go class, walk around, take long trips, I need to nap by 4pm...I think its because of lack of nutrition or something

You aren't taking care of yourself. You aren't eating well, you aren't getting the proper Vitamins and nutrients, and you are paying for that. You need to step up. It's not that hard to get the Protein in. Have a shake in the AM instead of some coffee, for example.

Good nutrition def plays a factor in why you are exhausted, but have you ever had your thyroid checked out? I think they do it in the pre-op tests, but with weight loss something might have changed. I have hypothyroidism and I have some of the same symptoms as you: Extremely tired and cold (thyroid helps control your body temp), but it also effects my moods as well if not properly controlled. Just a thought.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

thanks all for replying.

I starting taking an Iron pill on Sunday (am severly anemic) and have starting drinking Muscle Milk - one per day. 25 grams of Protein in each shake. only 3 grams of sugar. and their actually not bad tasting.

I am not as tired and I actually made it until 9pm last night before falling asleep.

whoa! if you are anemic, then that is your answer right there. Being anemic will cause major weakness and fatigue. Also, you really need to focus on getting your 8 cups of Water in during the day. You will feel better and you will more than likely lose faster as well. Hope all turns out A-OK:thumbup:

Have you tried eating a high Protein snack just before the time you usually get tired each day? That should help boost your energy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
