What is wrong here??

Hi everyone. I just got banded a little over a week ago on Aug.17 with Realizeband and I am wondering why I'm not losing any substantial weight when I'm only on liquids? I was told my pouch could hold about two ounces at a time, yet since I get thirsty...hungry...I sometimes gulp around 8 oz. of a liquid such as diet Decaf iced tea or a Protein Shake powder with milk. Could I have already streched and ruined my pouch? I haven't had ANY restriction problems such as vomiting. I'm worried I did all this for nothing. Does anyone know how someone who isn't even eating real food NOT be losing weight?

I was banded on the 18th of August, so I'm new to this too! The only advice I have for you is to not gulp! Sip fluids often. Your goal should be 2-4 ounces every half hour, which is 1/4 or 1/2 cup every 30 minutes. Hang in there!

My doctor told me you are really not using your pouch when you are on the liquids stage, because liquids flow right through. So that's probably why you are not feeling full. He said I wouldn't see any real weight lost until after my first fill.

Number one, your still recovering from surgery. You need to recover. You will loose weight. Liquid diets are just until you can tolerate real food. And you may not have any restiction without a fill. Number two, you must exercise. You can be tight as a tick and still not loose weight if you aren't exercising. Good luck!

It would be hard to stretch your pouch on liquids. Right now you are healing and the liquids will just flow on through. You did need to make sure you are following doctors orders and slowly move through your food progression. It is a real pain when you first start, because you really want to lose, you are hungry and can't understand why the darn thing isn't really working! Hang in there!

It will most likely take a few fills before you are really feeling any long term restriction. So your job is to practice the rules you have been given by your doctor. Make a switch to a healthy lifestyle, make good food choices, and exercise. Make sure you are getting some movement in, even this early after surgery. Walking is always a great place to start!

Don't give up on your band just yet, it will get better!

kbsongbird, everything they say is correct. Sip, don't gulp. You are still healing from the surgery. Just take it easy. Everyone is different;. Some lose during this period and others do not. Focus on healing and changing your life, not seeing what the limits are. ( been there):)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
